LG Electronics(160,000 +3.56%)Announced the complete withdrawal of the mobile phone business and “all-stop” for all new product launches, new LG smartphone products that have not seen the “light of the world” are leaking online and attracting attention.

On the 5th (local time), information technology (IT) professional Twitterian’Tron’ uploaded a practical photo that is believed to be LG Electronics’ flagship (strategic) smartphone new product,’LG Rainbow,’ which has failed to be officially launched.

The LG Rainbow in the photo is similar in many ways to the back design of LG Electronics’ LG Velvet, which was introduced in May of last year, such as a’water drop camera’ with vertically arranged camera lenses and a bright design. However, considering that the overall size of the camera module is larger than that of the LG Velvet, the camera performance seems to have improved.

LG Rainbow was originally developed by LG Electronics with the aim of launching in March of this year by the end of last year. However, as LG Electronics decided to put the MC (mobile communication) business headquarters on the operating table in January, the release continued to be delayed, and the sortie was eventually eliminated.

As the LG Electronics MC division planned last year, LG Rainbow was expected to become a general rectangular (bar) smartphone that connects LG Electronics’ existing top-level premium lineup’V Series’.

LG Electronics announced in the second half of last year that it reorganized its smartphone production strategy into two-track, such as general’bar’ type smartphones and’deformed smartphones’ such as swivel and rollable.

The first premium product among LG Electronics’ variant smartphones was the’LG Wing’, whose main screen rotated 90 degrees horizontally by LG Electronics in October last year, and the first product in the form of a bar was expected to be LG Rainbow.

A photo of the prototype’LG Rollable’ prepared by LG Electronics as the second variant premium smartphone was also leaked. This was in the process of preparing for the domestic release of LG Rollables by obtaining product certifications from various organizations such as the Korea Institute of Machinery, Electrical and Electronic Testing (KTC) and National Radio Research Institute.

The LG Rollable, which LG Electronics showed as a teasing (taste) video at the world’s largest IT and home appliance exhibition’CES 2021′ in January, can be used as a general smartphone size of 6.8 inches before unfolding. It is a structure that can be expanded.

LG Electronics devoted itself to the development of LG rollables with the aim of launching the world’s first rollable phone, but, like LG Rainbow, the MC division went through a reorganization procedure, and the release eventually failed.

According to an official familiar with the smartphone industry, LG Rainbow and LG Rollable were considered LG Electronics’ flagship products this year, so it was reported that they paid particular attention to improving quality and durability while producing prototypes directly at domestic Pyeongtaek factories.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics held a board meeting the day before and announced that it has decided to end its cell phone production and sales operations on July 31st. This is because it recorded a deficit for 23 consecutive quarters until the fourth quarter of last year, and it is no longer able to handle the accumulated deficit amounting to 5 trillion won.

LG Electronics plans to produce existing mobile phones so that it can supply the existing products promised to customers such as telecommunications companies by the end of May, and sell them by the end of July in order to run out of inventory. However, there is no plan to launch a new product. Up to 3,000 executives and staff members of the MC business division are also starting to reassign their workforce.

LG Electronics has stopped launching new smartphones, but plans to continue research and development of core mobile technologies such as 6G (6G) mobile communications, cameras, and software to prepare for the future. In addition, it has decided to maintain after-sale support (AS) services for existing LG phone users for the time being.
