In Ulsan, the 4·7 re-election day, on the 7th, the Nam-gu Office president re-election and the Ulju-gun councilor’s by-election voting are in progress.

On this day, voting is in progress at 70 polling places in Nam-gu and 19 polling places in Ulju-gun. To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), voters wore masks, entered the polling place, measured their body temperature and sanitized their hands, and then wore plastic gloves handed out by voting guides. After that, he stood on the distance sticker on the floor, waited for his turn, checked his identity, and cast his vote.

The number of electors in Ulsan totaled 344,488, including 270,1967 in Nam-gu and 72,521 in Ulju-gun. As of 1 p.m., 7442 people voted in the election of the head of Nam-gu, recording a 25.9% turnout. In the election of Ulju-gun, 15,520 people voted, showing a turnout of 21.4%.

Nam-gu, which has the largest population in Ulsan with a population of 320,000, has been predominant in conservative tendencies, but the Democratic Party of Korea flagged the flag for the first time in the 2018 local election. At that time, Democratic Party candidate Kim Jin-gyu was elected as the head of the Nam-gu office. However, when former Nam-gu mayor Kim was charged with violating the Public Office Election Act and lost his office as mayor, the Nam-gu mayor was again vacant.

In addition, the re-election, which draws attention to whether the Democratic Party will win or the people’s power recapture, will be held in a three-way battle. First of all, Kim Seok-gyeom, a candidate for the Democratic Party, has been acting as the mayor of the district after Kim Jin-gyu was arrested. Candidate Kim said, “With the strong ruling party in the background, we will responsibly solve current issues such as job issues under close cooperation with the city of Ulsan and the central government.”

The Power of the People Candidate Dong-wook Seo emphasizes the professional administrative competence and momentum he has worked as the head of the Nam-gu Office as his strengths. Candidate Seo was elected as the head of Nam-gu during the 2014 local election, but he gave up his seat in 2018 and then challenges again. He emphasized, “We will fix the leaks and confusion in the New Year’s Day that occurred in the course of the old mayor’s trial, and prepare a new electricity for regional development.”

Progressive Party candidate Kim Jin-seok is supported by local civil, social, and labor movement groups such as the Ulsan headquarters of the KCTU. Candidate Kim pledged, “I will improve the treatment of workers, improve employment safety, 3 labor rights, and prepare necessary measures to ensure the right to work safely.”

In the by-election of Ulju-gun, Democratic Party candidate Kim Ki-rak and people’s strength Park Ki-hong compete. Previously, the pre-voting rate was lower than the national average (20.54%) at 12.76% for the re-election of Nam-gu office heads and 9.8% for the Ulju-gun by-election. The winning outline is expected to come out around 11 pm on this day.
