On the 22nd, the government will announce the results of expert discussions and future countermeasures on the vaccine for AstraZenecasa’s novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), which has been swept by the’thrombosis-causing controversy’.

According to the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team on the same day, the government previously held a vaccination expert committee composed of experts in the field of cases and infectious diseases on the 20th and reviewed the safety controversy about the AstraZeneca vaccine. At this meeting, the Vaccination Committee shared the status of adverse reactions at home and abroad that were reported after vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine. It is known that the results of evaluations made by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) were also discussed.

The vaccination committee is expected to announce that there is no problem with the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Earlier on the 18th, EMA concluded that vaccination did not increase the overall risk of blood clots. They also evaluated that the benefits of vaccination were far higher than the risk of side effects. Based on the opinions of EMA, the Vaccination Specialist Committee arranged its position on the controversy about the safety of vaccines.

The day before, Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun also said at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (Spanish), “I reaffirmed that there is no problem with the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine.” Accordingly, the government is expected to proceed without change in a large framework for the second quarter vaccination plan, which is primarily targeted at 65 years of age or older, based on the recommendations of the vaccination committee.

Meanwhile, President Moon Jae-in and Mrs. Kim Jeong-suk will publicly vaccinate the AstraZeneca Corona 19 vaccine on the 23rd. This is for participation in the G7 Summit in June, and is in accordance with the guidelines for vaccination for mandatory-purpose departures set by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
