“I think the habit of writing game builds is helpful for work.”

There is a person who lived a second life as an employee of a large company while working as a StarCraft pro gamer from 2007 to 2012. This is Lim Tae-gyu (30) working at SK Energy’s Ulsan Plant. “The build habit of determining the order of building in the game according to your strategy as a player helps you prioritize your work,” he said.

According to SK Innovation (SK Energy’s parent company) on the 28th, Lim joined the company in 2016. Currently, the quality control department is in charge of experimentation and product management. After retiring in 2012, he completed his studies for four years and prepared for a job to become the SK family. Lim said, “I am most happy to have a psychologically stable life free from the pressure of sexual competition in the competition.”

As a player, Mr. Lim is criticized for leading the team to the famous’Protoss’ while working under the’Samsung Electronics Khan’. StarCraft is a game in which you choose one of three races to battle another race, and the Protoss is one of those races. The way Lim analyzed the video of another player’s game and studied how to attack the’Zerg’ race was unprecedented at the time.

In addition, rumors that the Intelligence Index (IQ) is 149, earned the nickname’Mensatos’ from fans. Mensa is a group of highly intelligent people, and fans have nicknamed the protoss with this word.

Lim said that he decided to retire with the idea that it would be better to play games only as a hobby. 2012 was a time when esports was stagnant. Then, at the recommendation of his father, who worked in the electric field, he decided to become a chemical and oil company. At the age of 15, I had to complete my studies, which I hadn’t been able to do before trying to become a pro gamer, but I passed this course with sincerity of practicing for 15 hours by making a life schedule as a player. Memories and experiences of the days when I couldn’t be a professional player without desperateness were the driving force behind my new job.

For Lim, games are now a hobby that he enjoys after work. Lim’s opinion is that games are a hobby that keeps social distancing and costs less. Lim explained, “As work and hobbies are completely separated, life has become much more diverse.”

Lim also connects with his colleagues at his own home and enjoys games. Chatting with colleagues using a free calling program while playing games is also a great medicine for stress relief. Lim said, “It’s good to have a hobby that suits you, but it seems like a game is right for me.”
