Samsung Display’s organic light emitting diode (OLED) display will be mounted on Hyundai Motor’s electric car’Ioniq 5′.

According to the automobile industry on the 28th, Hyundai Motor Company(238,500 -2.85%)Signed a supply contract to use Samsung Display’s OLED display for the first dedicated electric vehicle’Ioniq 5’that applied the electric vehicle platform’E-GMP’. The IONIC 5 can be equipped with a camera and display without removing the mirror from the side mirror through an optional feature. The camera runs in the seat of the side mirror and a display is mounted inside the door to replace the side mirror.

Samsung Display supplies its products to the system. Samsung Display is also supplying OLED displays to Audi’s electric vehicle’e-tron’, which adopts the same system as the Ioniq 5. OLED is thin and light in weight as there is no backlight that enters the liquid crystal display (LCD). It’s easy to adjust the brightness, so it doesn’t interfere with driving at night, and it can be used by changing the panel, such as bending or bending.

The contract to supply OLED for vehicles is also meaningful as a contract between Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung, which has been cut off for 10 years. Samsung Display has supplied 8-inch LCDs for navigation to Hyundai Motors for three years from 2011, but there has been no deal since then.

There is also an evaluation that the contract is foreshadowing the expansion of cooperation between Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung in the age of 3 in the business world. Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun last year(767,000 -2.79%)Visit Lee Jae-yong at Samsung Electronics(83,700 -2.22%) I met with the vice president to discuss collaboration.

In the future electric vehicle era, when the number of electronic parts increases, the importance of cooperation between automakers and electronics and IT companies is increasing, so the heads of both companies have opened up a field of cooperation.

An automobile industry official said, “As the era of electric vehicles opens, demand for batteries and lightweight materials is also increasing.”
