“I really want to be able to buy this kind of electric car at the price of the high end of 30 million won.”

Hyundai Motor (005380)On the 17th and 18th at the Wonhyoro office building in Seoul, the first model of the exclusive electric vehicle brand Ioniq,’IONIQ 5′, was released to the media for the first time after the launch. Hyundai Motor Company held the world’s first public event of Ioniq 5 online on the 23rd (Korean time).

Choosing this place where Hyundai Motor Company, the mother of Hyundai Motor Company, was located as the first place to unveil the real thing of IONIQ 5, I felt the ambition to continue the legacy of Hyundai and open a new era of electric vehicles.

As soon as the exhibition hall door was opened and the real thing was first encountered, the first thing that caught my eye was the headlights with’parametric pixels’ applied. It was a feeling that the parametric pixels, which were thin and concisely lined with straight headlights, embody in detail the original design beyond the current era.

The feeling of looking at a car of the future was largely influenced by the front design. For the first time in Hyundai Motors, a clamshell hood that covers the entire upper part was applied to minimize the parting line where faces meet and divide into lines, completing an image reminiscent of advanced technology.

Looking at the side, I found a familiar line. The side of the IONIQ 5 had a silhouette reminiscent of the’Pony’, which was Korea’s first unique model. Before long, his gaze turned to the rear, and admiration came to the endlessly stretched body.

The axle distance of 3,000mm, which is equivalent to that of a large car, and the 20-inch wheel with an aerodynamic structure, which is the largest ever-diameter of an electric vehicle of Hyundai Motor, boasted an overwhelming size. The anticipation for the interior space has increased.

The driver and passenger seats of the Ioniq 5. Thanks to the slim cockpit, there is plenty of space so that the legs of the person sitting in the passenger seat can be seen from outside.

As I approached the driver’s seat, I noticed a door handle that automatically came out and entered by recognizing the digital side mirror and smart key that the camera and monitor system were connected to. When I opened the door and went inside, I was impressed with the feeling of openness that was unobtrusive.

The driver’s seat and passenger seat were connected to each other thanks to the slim cockpit on the flat floor by applying a platform exclusively for electric vehicles. The console (Universal Island) located between them can be moved to the rear, creating a space where you can easily move between the driver’s seat and the passenger seat. When parking, when there was no space to get off in the driver’s seat, it would be easy to get off by moving to the passenger seat without difficulty.

The interior design focused on improving space utilization. The seat has also been reduced in thickness by 30% compared to the existing internal combustion engine vehicle, creating a wider space. The electric sliding seat can be moved easily with just a button, and without having to adjust each time according to the driver, the settings are saved and can be easily adjusted with just a button.

When I opened the hood of’Ioniq 5′, there was a front trunk provided in the seat of the existing engine room.

This openness was also felt in the front and rear trunks of the engine compartment. When there is a lot of load, such as a golf club, the second row seats can be moved forward to secure a larger space.

The world’s first 400V/800V multi-fast charging system that can use a variety of charging infrastructures is applied to the IONIQ 5. Quick recharge is possible as long as the coffee is brewed (18 minutes). It made it possible to receive less charging stress.

A Hyundai Motor Company employee plugs a dedicated inverter into the Ioniq 5 charging port and connects a hair dryer to operate it.

You can also use this charged vehicle as your own mini power plant. It is a function that allows you to easily use electricity in outdoor activities or camping places by plugging a dedicated inverter into the charging port. The guide staff directly demonstrated the’V2L’ function that can supply general power (220v) to the outside of the vehicle. After plugging the dedicated inverter into the charging port, I was able to see the operation by plugging in the hair dryer. By providing 3.6kW of power consumption, which is higher than that used in ordinary homes, it can be used not only for home appliances and electronic devices, but also for household power in case of emergency in the future. We were able to glimpse the infinite possibilities of electric vehicles that can serve as more than a means of transportation.

Hyundai Motor Company entered into a domestic pre-contract from the 25th of last month. The pre-contract for Ionic 5 is carried out with two long-range models, and the price is in the early 50 million won range for the exclusive price and the mid 50 million won range for the prestige.

If the individual consumption tax benefits applied to electric vehicles (up to 3 million won) and purchase subsidy (12 million won, based on Seoul City) are reflected, it is expected that the Long Range Exclusive Trim can be purchased at the end of the 30 million won range.
