Hyundai Motor Company’s next-generation electric car Ioniq 5 is making a blast in Europe following Korea.

According to Hyundai Motor’s European subsidiary on the 28th, more than 10,000 people applied as a result of receiving a pre-contract with Ioniq 5 for 3,000 units in Europe on the 25th. It was’completed’ in one day. Hyundai Motor Company received a deposit of 1,000 euros (approximately 1.4 million won) and made a pre-contract, so many are expected to lead to actual purchase. A Hyundai Motor Company official said, “After the release of the Ioniq 5, there have been 230,000 inquiries about vehicles.”

The Ioniq 5 is the first electric vehicle to apply the Hyundai Motor Group’s exclusive platform (E-GMP). In Korea, 23,760 pre-contracts were made in one day. Most of this year’s sales target (26,500 units) were sold in one day. It is the largest in history among domestic automobile pre-contracts. An ultra-fast charging system that can drive 100km with only 5 minutes of charging and an interior space equivalent to a large sports utility vehicle (SUV) are attracting attention.

Following Hyundai Motor Company, Kia will also unveil its first E-GMP-applied CV next month. The vehicle name is scheduled to be selected from EV1 to EV9. If CV also succeeds in gaining popularity, it is predicted that Hyundai Motor Group will establish a solid position in the global electric vehicle market.

Europe is one of the fastest growing electric vehicle markets in the world. A total of 74,5684 electric vehicles were sold in Europe last year. Compared to the previous year (36,164 units), it more than doubled. The forecast that more than 1 million units will be sold this year is dominant.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sold 9,5917 electric cars in the Western European market last year. Compared to 2019 (43,455 units), it has grown more than 120%. Hyundai and Kia plan to sell 70,000 and 60,000 electric vehicles in Europe this year, respectively.
