The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it had not received any official notice from North Korea that he would not attend the Tokyo Olympics.

According to AFP, a spokesman for the IOC said on the 6th (local time), “The IOC has not received any formal request from North Korea’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) to waive their obligation to participate in the Olympic Games under the Olympic Charter.” said.

Members of the IOC are obligated to participate in each competition in accordance with the Olympic Charter.

An IOC spokesman said it had requested several conference calls with North Korea’s NOC to discuss the Corona 19 situation, but it was impossible.

North Korea announced that it would not attend the Tokyo Olympics in Japan in July. It claimed that this was a decision to protect players from the Corona 19 crisis.

‘Chosun Sports’, run by the North Korean Ministry of Sports, announced on its website on the 6th that it has decided not to participate in the 32nd Olympic Games.

Chosun Sports said, “To protect the players from the global health crisis caused by the malignant virus infection, we followed the proposal of the committee members.”

North Korea is the first country to officially declare absence from the Tokyo Olympics. As the spread of Corona 19 continues, the Japanese government is concerned that other countries’ declarations of absence will continue.

The Tokyo Olympics were originally scheduled for July last year, but it was postponed once due to the spread of Corona 19.
