Trend Report-Kia, Apple Car Production Potential High

On the 5th (local time), the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), a US economic magazine, discussed how to produce Apple cars from 2024 by investing 3 billion dollars (about 3.4 trillion won) in Kia’s parent company in negotiations with Apple. Reported that it was in progress.

Citing sources, he explained that if an agreement is reached, up to 100,000 units can be assembled at Kia’s Georgia plant from the first year of production.

WSJ added, however, that Hyundai and Kia are not the only automakers that Apple is talking to about electric vehicles.

Prior to this, the US economic media CNBC also reported on the 4th (local time) that “Apple has reached an agreement on a plan to produce Apple cars at Kia’s West Point assembly plant in Georgia, USA,” citing multiple officials.

CNBC also revealed that Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun is promoting collaboration with Apple, citing sources familiar with the Hyundai Motor Group strategy.

CNBC added that, as reported by WSJ, a final agreement between Apple and Hyundai Motor Group has not been reached and that there is a possibility to collaborate with other automakers.

CNBC said that neither Apple nor the Hyundai Motor Group revealed an official position.

Apple-Hyundai Motor Group Cooperation Discuss Stop, No End

Less than a day after the WSJ report came out, confusion arose when an article said that Hyundai Motor Group and Apple had stopped discussing cooperation.

Bloomberg, an American business magazine, cited multiple sources on the 5th (local time), citing multiple sources, and the reason for the cessation of Apple’s anger when the Hyundai Motor Group mentioned the project in the media, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

Bloomberg said on the day, “Recently, the Hyundai Motor Group indirectly admitted to the Korean media that it is negotiating production with Apple, and Hyundai Motor Group’s mention of the project on the talks is producing bad results.”

Bloomberg, citing a source, added that “Apple has kept the project a secret for several years, but the Hyundai Motor Group is known to be outraged by referring to the project in the media, judging that it was out of effective control of Apple.”

Bloomberg also said, “It is unclear when the discussion between Apple and the Hyundai Motor Group will resume,” he said. “Many companies are interested in cooperating with Apple.”

It can be interpreted in the sense that the discussion is halted, not the conclusion of the negotiations.

Another source also told Bloomberg, “There is a controversy over whether Hyundai or Kia produces Apple cars within the Hyundai Motor Group. When cooperation is concluded, Kia is more likely to take over the consignment production than Hyundai. It will be produced in the factory.”

Lastly, Bloomberg added, “As Apple is still in its infancy, there will be no project announcements in the next five years, and we have more time to determine potential automotive partners.”
