The Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office and Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation teams reported that they would request arrest warrants for independent lawmaker Lee Sang-jik and Prosecutors Gyu-won Lee, respectively, but the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office withheld it. Rep. Lee was accused of embezzlement and denunciation of Eastar Jet, and the prosecutor was investigated for the illegal departure of Kim Hak-ei from the former vice minister of the Ministry of Justice.

According to law enforcement officials on the 25th, Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office, who investigated the lawmaker’s case, reported to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office that he would request an arrest warrant for him before the 15th.

Rep. Lee was accused of embezzlement, abortion, and child inheritance tax portals during the process of acquiring Eastar Jet shares by Eastar Holdings by the people’s strength and Eastar union last year. Rep. Lee left the Democratic Party in September last year when the responsibility for the mass dismissal of Eastar Jet was raised.

The Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office, which confiscated and searched Lee’s home and office, even completed a summons investigation of Lee last month. Since then, as Lee’s nephew and an executive in charge of Eastar Jet’s finances have been arrested, it is said that he has set up a policy to request an arrest warrant for Lee as well.

However, it is reported that the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office has suspended the request for an arrest warrant on the grounds that Lee is an incumbent member of the National Assembly. In order to arrest a member of the National Assembly who has the privilege of unarrest during the session, a majority of the members of the enrolled member must have the consent of the majority to attend. It seems that the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office decided that it was not easy to pass a motion for arrest in reality ahead of the April 7 by-election.

Prosecutor Lee Gyu-won, who is accused of entering a false case number in the departure fee request form of former Vice Minister Kim Hak-eui, also reported the policy of requesting an arrest warrant by the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, but the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office has not approved it.

In the case of this prosecutor, it is said that it was considered that the high-ranking public officials criminal investigation office, Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office were all involved in the case. This prosecutor was investigated by the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office in the case of former Vice Minister Kim, and the case was transferred to the airlift and then returned to the prosecution. In addition, when the prosecutor was dispatched to the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office in 2019, the so-called “Yoon Jung-cheon interview report” was falsely written, and the central district prosecutor’s office in connection with the suspicion of leaking it to a specific media was handed over to the airlift. The Air Defense Agency has not yet decided whether to directly investigate the prosecution case.
