Invested 76 trillion won in Digital New Deal

As part of this year’s Digital New Deal, the government will revitalize the 5th generation (5G) mobile communication and artificial intelligence (AI) convergence services in the industrial field. Digitalization of major roads will be promoted with the aim of commercializing fully autonomous driving in 2027. The Ministry of Science and ICT decided on the ‘2021 Digital New Deal Action Plan’ at the Korean version of the New Deal Ministers’ Meeting held on the 6th.

The Digital New Deal is a national project that creates about 900,000 jobs by digitizing the economy and society as a whole by investing 4,480 trillion won and 58,200 billion won in national expenditures by 2025. This year, the government will invest 7.6 trillion won to advance the data, network, and AI (DNA) economic structure, expand the non-face-to-face infrastructure, and promote the digitalization of social overhead capital (SOC).

The largest investment of 5.2 trillion won is invested in the advancement of the DNA economic structure. Additional 150 types of AI learning data will be added to advance Korean AI, and 44,000 public data will be fully opened. A joint public-private data control tower overseeing national data collection, linkage, and utilization policies will also be established. It will activate 5G/AI convergence services that combine AI and 5G technologies in industrial sites. For early construction of 5G networks, tax benefits will be given to 5G equipment and the supply of smart factories will be promoted.

The core business of SOC digitization with an investment of 1.8 trillion won is digitalization of transportation infrastructure. An Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is established on 45% of national roads, and maps are made with an autonomous driving precision of 11,670 km. It also included a smart disaster prevention system such as using drones to extinguish wildfires. In addition, it will invest 600 billion won to expand the non-face-to-face base such as digitalization of education, smart medical care, and non-face-to-face business.

The Ministry of Science and ICT said, “We will succeed in the digital new deal by consolidating national capabilities so that Korea can overcome the Corona 19 pandemic crisis and become a digital leading country.” I will promote creation.”
