Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Moon Seong-hyuk interviewed HMM labor and management representatives at the government’s Sejong Government Complex on the 14th at 3 pm.

The company’s president Jae-hoon Bae, the labor union chairman Jeong-geun Jeon, and the head of the land union branch Woo Young-soo attended.

At this meeting, the presidential administration praised the completion of the wage negotiations at the end of last year and agreed to strengthen the internal integrity so that the nationality can fulfill its responsibilities and roles.

HMM’s management explained the progress of wage negotiations in 2020 and the actions taken in response to a surge in shipping rates.

In the future, it announced a plan to do its best to support logistics for export companies, such as the provision of temporary ships in the US and Europe routes.

The labor union said, “There is a lot of public concern about the logistical turmoil and so on, we agreed on wage negotiations on a massive scale that we are united for reconstruction of shipping.”

Minister Moon first expressed his gratitude for the union’s determination to conclude the wage negotiations.

In addition, he said, “In order to respond flexibly to environmental changes surrounding the shipping industry, human investment is essential,” he said. “We will discuss with related organizations so that HMM can actively engage in human investment.”

Last year, HMM turned to a surplus in 21 quarters and achieved meaningful results.

However, as there are uncertainties such as Corona 19, they acknowledged that labor and management should make more concerted efforts to meet the expectations of the people as a national ocean carrier.

HMM added eight additional temporary ships to the US route last year to resolve the difficulties of exporting companies due to the surge in shipping rates and lack of shipping space.

For regular ships, it actively supported 350TEU of shipping space every week to SMEs.

HMM will also put in three temporary ships on the US route and the European route from mid-January to the end of February this year.

It plans to provide priority to 50% of the space for temporary ships to small and medium-sized enterprises. Ⓒ Safe Times
