The government held the ‘5th Innovative Growth BIG3 Promotion Meeting’ at the Export-Import Bank of Korea, chaired by Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and announced plans to improve key regulations to accelerate the spread of eco-friendly automobiles.
Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki said, “In order to achieve the goal of the era of 300,000 eco-friendly cars this year, there is an urgent need for regulatory reform to support the convenience of use of eco-friendly cars.”
The government plans to select and promote 10 tasks centered on charging, using, and parking to speed up the use of eco-friendly vehicles. First, it was possible to install hydrogen vehicle charging stations in city parks and in taxi and truck garages within the green belt.
If a complex hydrogen charging station is built on the site of an existing LPG or other charging station, it cannot be built beyond the building-to-land ratio limit in accordance with the Building Act, but in the future, it has been decided to allow it to be partially relaxed when calculating the building area. The facility standards will be relaxed so that electric car repair shops can operate even without the equipment necessary for maintenance of the internal combustion engine, and hydrogen car drivers will be excluded from safety training to increase the convenience of driving hydrogen cars, such as proxy driving.
It was decided to expand electric vehicle chargers around living bases such as residences and workplaces. The mandatory installation ratio for new buildings will be increased from 0.5% to 5% by next year, and 2% will be installed in private buildings by 2023, starting with public buildings next year. Mandatory installation targets include large marts, department stores, buildings owned by large corporations, and apartments with more than 100 households.
For the convenience of charging residents such as coalitions and houses, the government decided to make it mandatory to open public charging facilities established and operated by the state, local governments, and public institutions, and to increase the accessibility of electric vehicle users by disclosing the location and opening hours online. Public buildings such as the state and local governments should install 5% or more of the total number of parking spaces as eco-friendly vehicle parking areas starting next year.
