[이뉴스투데이 박병윤 기자] It is expected that Son Heung-min (29, Tottenham) will be selected for the Korea-Japan War by the coming weekend.
According to the Korea Football Association (KFA) on the 17th, the Tottenham club in the British professional football Premier League is currently closely grasping the physical condition of Son Heung-min, including the injured part, and decided to deliver the position regarding the selection of the national team to the KFA on the 19th-20th.
As soon as the KFA receives an official letter from Tottenham, it will officially announce whether Son Heung-min will participate in the Korea-Japan match.
Korea will compete with the Japanese national team in Yokohama, Japan on the 25th, during the March A match period.
Originally, Paulo Bento’s national team coach included Son Heung-min on the convocation list. However, Son Heung-min injured his hamstring (muscle behind the thigh) in the Premier League game Arsenal held hours before the list was announced.
According to the KFA’s findings, the timing of Son Heung-min’s return to the ground is not clear yet.
A KFA official said, “Because Son Heung-min’s hamstring injury is not as clearly visible as a sprain or bruise, Tottenham is checking his body condition through various tests.”
Meanwhile, Hwang Hee-chan (25), a member of the German professional football Bundesliga Leipzig club, was eventually missed.
The KFA announced on the 17th that “Hwang Hee-chan will not be allowed to borrow due to the quarantine regulations of the German state health authorities in Saxony.”
Initially, Hwang Hee-chan’s name was included when the list was announced, but it was’conditional’. Since the team and the state government were at the stage of discussing exemption from quarantine after returning home, there was a possibility of change.
The KFA decided not to select a substitute player for Hwang Hee-chan’s failure, so there were 23 players in the Japanese match.
