The commemoration procession continued from the morning of the 16th at the Busan Citizen’s Incense Center, the late Chairman of the late Ki-wan Baek. The Busan Movement Headquarters, consisting of 70 organizations in Busan, set up an incense burner in the Busan City Hall Plaza on the morning of this morning and received memorial services.

Ha-won Ahn, co-representative of Busan Environmental Movement Association, Lee Heung-man, advisor to Busan Environmental Movement Association, Sang-yoon Ha, co-representative of Folk Plaza, Kim Jae-nam, head of Busan Headquarters of Trade Unions, Kim Jong-ki, director of Busan Democratic Park, Joo-yeol Choi, co-representative of Busan People’s Alliance More than 20 representatives of the Busan Civil Society and Jinbo Party, including emeritus professor and Kim Dong-yoon, representative of the Peace and Unification Center, and the elders stood in front of Young-jeong of Paik Ki-wan with a chrysanthemum first.

Citizen incense centers in three places in Busan…’Memorial for Paik Ki-wan’

Yang Mi-sook, executive director of the Busan Participation Solidarity, also visited the incense house this morning. After finishing the memorial, he expressed his condolences, saying, “I have to go see more of the bigger changes in our society, but I am very sorry for not being able to do that.”

Park Cheol, a senior pastor of Busan Samter Church, a permanent representative of the post-nuclear Busan Citizens’ Solidarity, posted a memorial message on Facebook. Pastor Park expressed regret, saying, “The living witness of democracy, who kept the scene from the April 19th Revolution to the Candlelight Uprising for half a century, left this Earth today. Mr. Ki-Wan Baek’s intelligence was as cold as ice, and his passion against injustice was hotter than fire.”

In addition to the City Hall Plaza, a memorial incense center in the Busan area was also established in Busan Democratic Park and Labor Welfare Center. Kim Jong-ki, director of Democratic Park, who installed an incense burner on the first floor of the Democratic Uprising Memorial in the building, said, “He has lived a wonderful life that anyone who has encountered the democratization movement will respect.” He added, “Rather than ourselves, we only put our efforts into unification and liberation. It is our remaining role to connect this spirit.”

4.7 Among the preliminary candidates running for the Busan Mayor’s by-election, Roh Jeong-hyun, chairman of the Progressive Party’s Busan City Party, visits the Civic Incense Center this afternoon.
