Industry Minister Sung Yun-mo, on-site inspection of Daesan Hydrogen Fuel Cell

First hydrogen economy field trip after the enforcement of the hydrogen law

[투데이에너지 송명규 기자] Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Sung Yun-mo visited the Daesan Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant site on the 8th.

As the first hydrogen economy-related step after the implementation of the Hydrogen Act, he visited a fuel cell power plant, a major pillar of the use of hydrogen energy, to check the status of safety management, and encouraged the hard work of employees who are working hard to supply and supply electricity in winter.

The Daesan Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant is the world’s first commercial power plant that utilizes’by-product hydrogen’ as an energy source, and it was jointly established by Hanwha Energy, Korea East-West Power, and Doosan Fuel Cell, and began operating in earnest from last June.

Daesan Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant can stably supply 400,000 MWh of electricity that can be used by 160,000 households per year to nearby areas. It has a high operating rate of 97% on average, and is operating safely throughout the entire process of’hydrogen production-transport-use’ without a single safety accident such as hydrogen leakage.

In particular, it is also in charge of the so-called’ultra-large air purifier’ by purifying ultrafine dust in the air through a fine filter installed in the generator and supplying clean air that can breathe for about 350,000 adults.

Korea’s hydrogen fuel cell supply has grown into the largest power generation market, accounting for 43% of the world supply, with a scale of about 600MW by the end of last year. The government plans to supply 15GW of fuel cells for power generation (domestic 8GW, cumulative basis) by 2040 and foster it as an export industry along with domestic eco-friendly energy supply.

To support this, it is decided to promote the introduction of the’Hydrogen Power Generation Compulsory System’ and a plan for reorganizing the related system is being prepared.

Minister Sung Yun-mo said, “The world’s first implementation of the hydrogen law has laid the foundation for a full-fledged hydrogen economy, and hydrogen fuel cells, an eco-friendly power plant, will lead Korea’s carbon neutrality in the future.” We will not spare any interest and support so that we can continue to maintain the status of the company, and above all, we are urged to operate a’safe and clean power plant’ by thoroughly complying with safety management regulations.”
