Indonesian Foreign Minister Letno Masudi planned a visit to Myanmar to hold talks with Myanmar military leaders but canceled it.

Although the detailed background is not known, an analysis suggests that it would have been difficult to face the fierce opposition of the protesters on the side of state advisor Aung San Suu Kyi.

According to Reuters on the 24th, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Paizasha said at a briefing that “considering the current situation and opinions of ASEAN countries, this is not an ideal time to visit Myanmar.”

Earlier, Reuters cited sources and said that Minister Letno had gathered opinions from Southeast Asian countries to hold a special meeting on Myanmar.

In the meantime, Indonesia reported that it had proposed a plan to send a watchdog in Myanmar to hold a fair and comprehensive election.

However, the proposal angered some of the protesters who were calling for the immediate release of Suu Kyi Aung San Suu Kyi, who is currently in custody by the military, and for recognition of the National League for Democracy (NLD) elections in November of last year, led by Suu Kyi torture.

It is the position of the military to overturn the general election in November and hold the election again.

Protesters in Myanmar gathered in front of the Indonesian embassy in Yangon, calling out hundreds of people against Indonesia’s proposal.
