Indian metropolitan area strengthens security after’tractor demonstration’… Farmers’ representative accused violence

On the 26th (local time), the Indian government has stepped forward to reinforce security in the metropolitan area in connection with the’farmer tractor protest’ in the capital New Delhi.

According to local media such as NDTV on the 27th, Interior Minister Amit Shah held an emergency meeting the night before and decided to deploy additional combat police personnel in New Delhi.

The day before, thousands of protesters went to New Delhi city and the historic site’Red Fort’, and the police did not properly stop it.

NDTV cited officials and reported that 86 policemen were injured in the protest the previous day, and that 8 buses and 17 passenger cars were damaged. The social network service (SNS) also uploaded a video of some policemen being pushed down by protesters and jumping down from a 5-6m high wall.

The police have also initiated investigations, including arresting the protesters with the protesters out of the Red Fort.

Emergency alerts have been issued in the provinces of Haryana and Punjab, near New Delhi. Communication networks in some areas of the metropolitan area were also blocked.

The day before, farmers near New Delhi held a large-scale tractor demonstration in time for Republic Day, a major local holiday.

Protesters protested peacefully and said they would keep the promised line of movement, but some farmers broke the barricades with tractors ahead of their intended course and entered the city.

Some of them entered the Red Fort and put their flags on the watchtowers.

In this regard, the peasant leadership said it condemned the violence that occurred during the protests.

The leadership, however, is known to be in a position to continue the protests.

Farmers are opposed to the Agricultural Reform Act passed by Congress in September last year. This law covers the private opening of agricultural products distribution market. At present, tens of thousands of farmers are conducting’stay demonstrations’ outside New Delhi for about two months.
