Conservative groups criticized “Pro-Japanese property repurchases were still taking place during the Park Geun-hye administration,” and criticized that “It is language that the Moon Jae-in administration’s Justice Minister Chu Mi-ae received Choi Jae-in’s prize.” He continued, “Please don’t get hurt by the hard work of our ancestors who sweat for our liberation,” he argued, saying, “The Liberation President is a completely politically biased person.”

Prior to this rally, Choi Jae-hyung’s commemorative project group visited the Liberation Hall and protested the selection of Minister Chu as the winner, and then made a statement to reporters in front of the building. Moon Young-sook, chairman of the Choi Jae-hyeong Commemoration Project Association, expressed regret that the Liberation Association awarded Choi Jae-hyung Award without separate consultation with the Commemoration Project.

Chairman Moon said, “If we had to coordinate and notify in advance, this situation would not have come,” he said. “The business association is a place operated by sponsor sponsorship, and many sponsors are protesting.”

Chairman Moon said that the Choi Jae-hyeong commemorative project had already announced the Choi Jae-hyung award by itself.

Regarding the protest visit on the day, Chairman Moon said, “(We) are a group that respects only Choi Jae-hyung in a neutral way beyond the Party. .

On the same day, at 4 pm, the Liberation Association presented the’Choi Jae-hyung’ to the Minister of Justice. The Liberation Association explained the reason for the award, saying that Minister Chu tried to reopen the pro-Japanese property, which was suspended during the Lee Myung-bak administration, and to transfer the pro-Japanese property of Hae-Seung Lee, who received the title of Marquis from Japan.

The Choi Jae-hyung award is a commemoration of the late independence activist Choi Jae-hyung (1860-1920). Minister Chu is the third winner after the late Rep. Kim Sang-hyeon and former National Assembly Secretary-General Yoo In-tae.
