Illegal Distribution of Steroid Products

[아시아경제 최대열 기자] The authorities cautioned that steroids such as anabolic (anabolic) steroids may cause side effects such as hair loss and menstrual irregularities if they are used to strengthen muscles or increase exercise effects, not to treat diseases.

According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, anabolic steroids are synthetic steroids that promote protein absorption and are used to treat osteoporosis, growth failure, and physical wasting. It is often used as an illegal route for the purpose of maximizing the effect of exercise or specialty drugs that are strictly used according to the doctor’s treatment and prescription.

In case of misuse or abuse, men may suffer from side effects such as hair loss, reduced testes, infertility due to decreased sperm count, and gynecomastia. Women may have masculinization, beard development, and menstrual irregularities. Adolescents are concerned about serious side effects such as hypothyroidism and stunted growth, which stops growth and bone development.

There is a high possibility that illegally distributed products should be used differently from the license requirements or were manufactured in an unsanitary environment or contaminated with microorganisms. Skin and muscle tissue necrosis can occur if this is taken with injections, and severe damage such as sepsis can result. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “You should not buy or use steroids in places other than hospitals or pharmacies, and if you are using them, you should stop even now.”
