“Inadvertently reducing wealth” Cho Su-jin avoided invalidating the election… A fine of 800,000 won

Rep. Cho Su-jin, a member of the Power of the People, avoided the invalidity of the election in the first trial ruling on the alleged violation of the Public Office Election Act. The 11th Division of the Seoul Western District Law Criminal Agreement (deputy judge Moon Byung-chan) sentenced a fine of 800,000 won to Rep. Cho who was accused of deliberately omission of property in the general election last April. If a fine of 1 million won or more is sentenced for violating the Public Official Election Act, the position of the lawmaker is lost.

The court said, “It has undermined the purpose of the disclosure of candidate information that voters can judge fairly, but it does not appear that Congressman Cho has made false information on property with active intentions or plans.” Earlier, on the 23rd of last month, the prosecution requested a fine of 1.5 million won, which is invalid for election, saying, “Rep. Joe deliberately omitted his property for the purpose of election.”

The judge also selected ineffectiveness for the election, saying, “It is difficult to say that the property of the proportional representative candidate was not disclosed during the election process, and thus had a decisive effect on the election.” Explained why not.

However, the court did not accept most of Cho’s claim that “I didn’t know much about the property reporting process because I had no experience.” The judge ruled that “Rep. Cho, who has worked in the media for about 25 years, is difficult to see as a person who has no knowledge or experience in reporting the property of public officials.” He also pointed out that “Rep. Cho seems to have been aware of the fact that the actual property and the reported property may be different during the property report process.”

On September 29, last year, members of the Citizens' Federation for Economic Justice Practice (Gyeongsilyeon) filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office against independent lawmakers Kim Hong-geol and Cho Su-jin, members of the People's Strength, allegedly reporting false property. At the time of the general election in April last year, Rep. Cho reported property of 1.85 billion won, but immediately after the election of the National Assembly, he reported an increase of 1.1 billion won to 3 billion won. In the process of reporting the property, it was investigated and handed over to trial after being investigated for false disclosure of property, including omission of 500 million won bonds. At the decision hearing last month, Rep. Cho explained, “It was a mistake that was made because we didn’t know how to write the property holding status form properly.” After the sentence was sentenced that day, Rep. Cho said, “There are some regrets, but I respect the judgment of the judge.”

Meanwhile, on this day, when a reporter asked, “Don’t you think it is inappropriate to liken the Democratic Party member Ko Min-jeong to the concubine that gave birth to a prince?” If there is a problem, I clarified it on Facebook.” Rep. Cho also took the reporter’s smartphone by saying, “Don’t shoot. Are you here?” to another reporter who filmed this scene with a smartphone.
