A mutant virus originating from South Africa was also found in Maryland, USA. It is the second time after South Carolina, where two infected people were earlier.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said on the 30th (local time) that one Baltimore resident was confirmed to be infected with the virus. It has been confirmed that this resident has never traveled abroad, raising concerns that the spread of the community has already started.

The South African mutant virus is known to be more contagious than the existing virus, just like the UK and Brazil mutant. However, scientists believe that this mutation does not cause more serious illness or increase mortality.
