Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun said on the 9th to the self-employed people in the metropolitan area who oppose the “maintaining of business restrictions at 9 pm”, saying, “It is a decision that has been comprehensively considered, including the risk of infection,” and “I ask for widespread participation and cooperation.”

Prime Minister Chung said at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters at the Sejong City Government Complex on the same day, “I am well aware that small business owners and self-employed people in the metropolitan area who had expected’relaxation of 9:00 p.m.’ Said this.

“Some people heard the news that from the evening of yesterday (8th) they started’opening protests’,” he said. “The government also understands the sentiment, but this decision comprehensively considered the risk of infection and social acceptance, and received sufficient opinions from various fields. As much as I did, I ask for great participation and cooperation.”

In addition, Prime Minister Chung diagnosed, “The momentum of the third coronavirus epidemic has been somewhat softened, but it is still too early to conclude that it is stable,” and “the situation is not improving significantly when looking at the metropolitan area.”

“Three out of four domestic confirmed cases are still coming out of the metropolitan area, and the infectious material production index has recently exceeded 1.” Added.

From the previous day, restaurants and cafes in the non-metropolitan area can operate in-store until 10 pm, and indoor sports facilities and multi-use facilities can be operated until 10 pm. However, in the case of the metropolitan area, the business hours of these facilities are limited to 9 p.m. as now. The government will monitor the situation for a week, including the Lunar New Year holiday, and decide whether to extend the business hours of multi-business facilities in the metropolitan area.
