The launch of new cars from popular brands, such as Mercedes and BMW, and individual consumption tax cuts seem to have worked.

The Korea Imported Automobile Association announced on the 6th that the total number of newly registered imported cars last year increased 12.3% from the previous year (244,780 units) to 274,859 units.

By brand, Mercedes-Benz took first place following the previous year. However, the sales volume was 76,879 units, down 1.6% from the previous year.

BMW, which ranked second, sold 58,393 units, an increase of 32.1% from the previous year. The new 5 series, launched in Korea in October, seems to have driven the performance.

Audi, third place, sold a total of 25,513 units last year, more than doubled from the previous year. Then, Volkswagen (17,615 units), Volvo (12,798 units), Chevrolet (12,455 units), and Minis (11,245 units) all sold more than 10,000 units.

According to the Kaizu U Data Research Institute, Tesla sold a total of 11,826 units last year, ranking 6th among imported car brands. Model 3 accounted for most of 11,3 units.

Next, Lexus (8,911 units), Jeep (8753 units), Porsche (7,779 units), Ford (7,69 units), Toyota (6,154 units), Land Rover (4,801 units) , Lincoln (3,378 units), Honda (3,56 units), and Peugeot (2,611 units) followed.

By country, European brands (221,000,141 units) accounted for 80.5%, followed by the United States (33,154 units) and Japan (2,564 units).

Japanese brands declined 43.9% year-on-year. Lexus fell 27.2%, Toyota 42.0% and Honda 65.1%, showing that sales have not recovered since the boycott last year.
