“I’m increasingly burdened with instant rice”… Hetbahn prices go up and bread prices go up.

As the price of rice increased, hetbahn increased from 1600 won to 1700 won

Food prices are rising one after another. As the price of rice rises, the price of instant rice rises, and as the price of wheat and eggs rises, the price of bread also rises.

From the end of this month, CJ CheilJedang’s’Hetbahn (210g)’ price has increased by 100 won from 1600 won to 1700 won. The price increase for Hetbahn has only been 2 years since February 2019.

After the Lunar New Year holidays, Ottogi decided to increase the price of three kinds of’Ottogibab’ by about 7%. It is raised again after 5 months since it increased by about 8% in September last year. Dongwon F&B has already increased the price of 7 types of’Sen Cook’ last month from 1350 won to 1,500 won by 11%.

Rice prices are rising. According to the Agricultural Products Distribution Information System of the Korea Agricultural and Fishery Food Distribution Corporation (aT), as of today, 20kg rice is 6,214 won. It rose more than 16% from 5,720 won a year ago. The average monthly rice price in December of last year exceeded 60,000 won, the highest since the statistics were compiled.

The number of people who eat rice has increased, because the production has dropped dramatically. Demand for’home food’ increased due to the spread of Corona 19, but rice production decreased due to the longest rainy season in history last year.

The price of bread, which is often eaten instead of rice or as a snack, also increases. Paris Baguette is also considering raising the price after the Lunar New Year holidays. Tous Les Jours has already recently raised the price of red bean bread and soboro bread by 100 won.

Companies say this is because the prices of raw materials such as flour and eggs have risen. The COVID-19 outbreak has undermined the food supply chain, and the effects of climate change are driving up international grain prices like wheat. In Korea, egg prices are not falling even when the import of eggs is increased. Still, the price of a plate of 30 eggs is close to 7500 won.

There are concerns that snacks, ramen, and makgeolli using the same raw materials will also grow in line.
