“If you want to restore the nuclear agreement, start by lifting sanctions”… Iran’s Hamenei first calls for Biden

Foreign Minister also said, “If time is delayed, we will lose a lot”

Iran has stepped up demanding the lifting of sanctions against the United States, which was launched by the Joe Biden administration. In particular, the top leader, Ayatollah Sayed Ali Hamenei, first appeared on the front.

According to foreign media such as AFP on the 7th (local time), Iran’s top leader, Hamenei, in a speech to air force commanders ahead of the 42nd anniversary of the Iranian Revolution, said, “If the US wants to return to Iran’s obligation to a nuclear agreement, the sanctions must be lifted completely. “I urged. He stressed that the United States should lift sanctions “not just by word or document,” he said.

Not only that. On his twitter that day, he wrote, “Iran fulfilled all of its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement, but the United States and three European countries did not.” He argued for the justification of the request to lift sanctions.

The Associated Press reported that Hamenei’s commentary on the day came after President Biden took office, who expressed a willingness to restore a nuclear agreement with Iran.

Iran’s foreign minister also added pressure to lift sanctions against the US. Minister Mohammad Javad Jarif said in an interview with Hamshari on his daily basis that if sanctions are not eased by February 21, the Iranian government’s nuclear stance will be stubborn. The Iranian parliament handled a bill last December that set a deadline for easing sanctions two months later.

Minister Zarif also warned that the problem could get worse if a person who follows a hard line is elected in his country’s presidential election in June. “If the United States delays time, he will lose more,” he said. “(Negotiation) The United States has to find a ticket before coming to the table.”

The’Iran Nuclear Agreement’ (JCPOA, Comprehensive Joint Action Plan) was signed in 2015 by the Barack Obama administration, in 2015, five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council including the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China, and six countries, including Germany, with Iran. It is an agreement. In exchange for Iran’s abandonment of nuclear development, it states that six countries will lift economic sanctions against Iran.

It was former US President Donald Trump that broke this agreement. In May 2018, saying that Iran is lying about its nuclear program, it unilaterally declared withdrawal from the nuclear agreement and restored sanctions against Iran. Then Iran also took step-by-step measures to reduce the scope of the agreement, and the agreement was in danger of being scrapped.

The goal of the Biden administration is to restore the nuclear agreement. However, the resumption of Iran’s obligations was prerequisite. There is no mention of specific plans yet. However, it seems that negotiations are not far away. US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln discussed the nuclear agreement with foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany on the 5th.
