Nowadays, it is difficult to do outside activities, and more and more’souls’ who drink alone at home. According to the results of the ‘2020 Alcohol Consumption Survey’ released by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in December last year, 92% of those who responded that there was a change in drinking places after Corona 19 chose their home as the changed place.
In addition, 81% of those who responded that the person they drink with has changed are found to drink alone.
If you drink alone, your drinking speed will speed up and no one will let you stop eating, so your self-control is likely to deteriorate. Experts advise that this drinking habit can lead directly to alcoholic fatty liver.
Fatty liver literally refers to a state in which fat is accumulated beyond normal. Normally, about 5% of the weight is accumulated as fat in the normal liver. If fat accumulates more than that, it is diagnosed as fatty liver.
Fatty liver is divided into non-alcoholic fatty liver and alcoholic fatty liver. Non-alcoholic fatty liver is caused by diabetes, obesity, and hyperlipidemia, but alcoholic fatty liver is attributed to frequent drinking. The more often you drink too much, the more fat synthesis is promoted in the liver, the greater the risk of fatty liver, and the fatty liver may worsen to cirrhosis and liver cancer.
♦ Chronic fatigue or jaundice symptoms indicate red liver health
However, even if you have fatty liver, there is no great pain, so you can pass it without knowing it. The liver is often referred to as a silent organ without pain, even if a problem occurs. Therefore, if you usually feel chronic fatigue, or if you experience jaundice, in which the whites of your eyes turn yellow, red signals may be turned on for liver health.
If fatty liver is suspected and you visit the hospital, first of all, you will be tested for liver function tests (AST, ALT, rGTP), blood sugar and cholesterol levels through blood tests. If this number is higher than the normal range, fatty liver is suspected, and liver ultrasound, computed tomography, liver fibrosis test, etc. are used to confirm the condition of the liver.
It is important to start abstaining from alcoholic fatty liver immediately to lower and maintain liver levels. If only drinking alcohol is thoroughly maintained, fat begins to be removed from the liver usually between 1 and 2 months, and drinking alcohol for 3 to 4 months can be cured. If it is followed by regular exercise and thorough self-care, recovery can be relatively quick.
Dr. Jin-Heon Hong, an internal medicine department at Seran Hospital, said, “If you drink alone, it is a drinking habit that should be avoided as much as possible because the drinking rate can be faster and the amount you drink can be increased. Because there are many, thorough self-management is necessary.”
It is important to manage your health with a home rather than at home, and proper health care for your physical condition such as light walking exercises when the day is off.
