Samsung C&T’s Construction Division announced on the 8th that it would hold a proclamation ceremony for’workers’ right to stop working at each site at home and abroad, and fully guarantee workers’ right to stop working.

Samsung C&T plans to apply comprehensively so that workers can easily exercise their right to stop working even if it is not an’imminent risk’ as stipulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

In particular, a substantial compensation and reward system will be introduced in order to resolve the concerns of disadvantages that have become the biggest obstacle for workers to exercise their right to stop working. If construction is interrupted due to the exercise of the employee’s right to stop working and a disruption occurs, it is decided to compensate for the loss to the partner company, and this is reflected in the construction contract.

In addition, incentives will be provided to workers who actively participated in discovering and removing risk factors in advance by exercising the right to stop working.

Samsung C&T’s Managing Director Cho Geun-ho explained, “We are currently operating the safety and health management system by reflecting the right to stop working, but we are making a major improvement in the system and system so that the exercise of the right to stop working at all domestic and overseas sites can be activated.”

In addition, a reporting platform such as a social network service (SNS), a dedicated application, and a hotline will be established so that workers can easily and quickly exercise their right to stop their work and receive actions taken.

By operating an emergency safety response team at each site, if the right to stop work is exercised, it will take immediate action and provide feedback to the workers. Publicity, education, and campaigns are also actively expanded so that workers can check the safety status of the work environment, demand improvement measures and exercise their right to stop working as their natural right.

In addition, the company plans to establish common operating standards and procedures related to the right to suspend work, and make a formal decision by the labor-management council, a consultative body between on-site managers and worker representatives, and reflect this in the safety and health management regulations. The Samsung C&T Hi-Tech Division is currently operating a’risk discovery mileage’ system that rewards workers by combining the results of finding accident risk and suggesting safety improvement ideas.

In the last year alone, about 360,000 reports were made, and about 8,400 cases of suspension of work were exercised. The Samsung C&T side said, “Safety is the first principle of management, and in addition to guaranteeing workers’ right to stop working, we will dramatically increase the level of safety and environment at the site by improving systems and systems.”
