A Thai man, who normally enjoys eating raw meat, has a parasite that is ten times longer than his kidney.

On the 24th (local time), foreign media such as the British Daily Mail and The Sun reported that a giant 18m long parasite came out of the ship of a man in his 60s living in Thailand.

According to reports, a 67-year-old man living in the Nong Khai region in northeastern Thailand visited a hospital with severe abdominal pain on the 19th. Unable to find the exact cause of the abdominal pain, the medical staff took a sample of the patient’s stool and sent it to the Parasitic Disease Research Center. The test showed 28 parasite eggs in the stool sample.

The Parasitic Disease Research Center prescribed a drug that releases parasites to the patient, and after taking the drug, the man released a whopping 18m of parasites.

“Taenia saginata, a type of parasite, came out of the body of a 67-year-old man,” said a spokesman for the Thai Parasitic Disease Research Center. This parasite is the longest found in Thailand in the past 50 years.

Medical staff believe that the man was infected with a tapeworm because he usually eats raw beef.

Common tapeworms are usually over 9m in length and can live in a human body for more than 30 years.

The Parasite Center added, “This man’s family also had a high probability of consuming raw meat, so we proposed a test to check for parasite infections.”
