A medical student at Seoul National University, who was simultaneously admitted to six medical schools, appeared on a broadcast and expressed his ambition to contribute to society as a doctor, and then became controversial.

Shin Jae-moon, a medical student at Seoul National University, appeared on tvN’s’You Quiz on the Block’ broadcast on the 6th.

Mr. Shin Jae-moon was simultaneously admitted to Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, and Kyunghee University Medical School.

The problem is that Jae-moon Shin was from Gyeonggi Science High School.

When asked about the secret of passing six medical schools, the MCs asked, “Is it the first place in the whole school?” In response, Mr. Shin Jae-moon said, “It was the third place in the whole school,” and that “high school was Gyeonggi Science High School with a credit system.”

As the secret to passing medical school, he chose’Jasoseo’. He explained, “It is important not only to study, but to show various activities. There are so many good friends in this world that you have to appeal to why you are special.” He reported that he had 215 hours of medical service to go to medical school.

In his story, he said, “Science high school is a place that provides tax support to nurture scientific talent, so medical school is not proud of it”, “Science high school that receives free tuition support to nurture science talent is provided at any time. All of them are broadcasted for being proud of what they wrote in medical school.”

To the production crew, “I have recruited a person who degenerates the meaning of science high school”, “Is the example of the wrong course of a representative science high school aired proudly?”, “It is a mistake of the production crew to cast Shin.”

On the other hand, there was also an opinion that “there is no need to blame individuals for going overtime because individuals study well for the wrong education system in the first place.”

In the meantime, it has been pointed out that many of the graduates of gifted schools, both inside and outside the education world, go to medical colleges rather than science and engineering.

As the controversy over the issue of science high school admission to medical school continued, a plan to nurture gifted students in the science field was announced through the’Improvement of the 2021 Seoul Science High School Selection System and Reinforcement of Science and Engineering Admission Guidance’.

Seoul Science High School, a gifted school, decided to refund educational expenses and scholarships by applying to medical colleges starting from 2020 freshmen, and cancel the in-school awards. The establishment of the provision for compulsory return of education expenses is the second of the eight gifted schools nationwide, after the Busan Korea Science School for the Gifted, and reflects the circumstances of the school, which is recording the highest medical school enrollment rate.

Seoul Science High School decided to get back 15 million won in education expenses for three years just by applying to medical colleges starting from 2020 freshmen. The tuition fees paid by students of gifted schools are the same as those of public and public high schools, but the government invests 5 million won per person annually in this school to recruit doctoral-level teachers, operate cutting-edge equipment, and support research activities in accordance with the Gifted Education Promotion Act.

In the meantime, Seoul Science High School has received a memorandum from the admitted students, saying,’I will go to science and engineering and take a disadvantage when entering medical school.’ When applying for medical school, I did not write a teacher recommendation letter, or when I went to school, I returned a scholarship. Still, as the medical school enrollment rate did not drop, they came up with a measure to reimburse education expenses just by applying.

However, given the reality that large numbers of high-income children are enrolled in gifted schools, parents are highly likely to prefer gifted schools with a high medical school enrollment rate even if they vomit 15 million won.
