It is reported that a man in his twenties who was arrested for approaching and hitting unknown women in the Gangnam Station area in Seoul expressed hostile feelings toward women for the crime.
On the 29th, Judge Kim Tae-gyun, the deputy chief judge of the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant to Mr. A (in his late 20s). Deputy Judge Kim said, “If the facts of the crime are clarified, the case is serious, and the collected evidence and the risk of a second offense are combined, it is recognized that there is a risk of the suspect running away or destroying the evidence.
Mr. A, a job-prepared student with no apparent income, is accused of running away from the back of the head of four women in their 30s and 40s walking down the street near Gangnam Station from the beginning of this month. The victims had no one-sided relationship with Mr. A, and the time of the crime was not selected any day or night. As a result of the investigation, he had no history of mental illness and was not even drinking alcohol at the time of the crime.
After the arrest, Mr. A explained about the motives of the crime, “I want to hit a woman only when I see her,” Yonhap News reported. The police are analyzing CCTVs on the scene to see if Mr. A actually committed a crime only against women.
In 2016, a crime against women occurred near Gangnam Station, causing controversy over misogyny crimes. On May 17, 2016, Mo Kim killed an unknown woman with a weapon in the bathroom of a karaoke building near Exit 10 of Gangnam Station in Seoul. In the first police investigation, Mr. Kim stated that “they were ignoring and committed the crime.” In addition, it was revealed that Kim had been hiding in the bathroom for about 30 minutes, passing seven men, but targeting the last woman who entered the crime. It is the so-called’Gangnam Station murder case’.
However, the police and prosecutors at the time concluded that it was not a misogynistic crime. Although the crime committed by the delusion against women was correct, Mr. Kim was considered a schizophrenic patient and a crime caused by mental illness. Kim was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2017.
