“I miss my children” ladder car appeared in nursing home in tears of the elderly

Due to concerns about the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), visits to nursing hospitals and nursing homes nationwide are completely banned, and some are unable to spend the Lunar New Year with their families. These are the elderly living in a nursing home. For this reason, some nursing homes are pouring tearful ideas for the elderly, such as attempting non-face-to-face visits using Sky Tea.

“I want to see you… can I get a vaccine?”

Park Mo (85), who is in a nursing home in Incheon, began to shed tears as the holidays approached. Grandma Park said, “I know that I can’t help it because of Corona 19, but I want to see my children so much.” Grandma Park also asked, “Can we meet if the vaccine comes out and is beaten?”

Park, who entered a nursing home in 2019, went out from the nursing home on Chuseok that year and spent the holidays with her family. This is because they were free to visit or go out before Corona 19 spread in Korea. For this reason, it is said that New Year’s Eve and Chuseok were the most waiting days for the elderly living in nursing homes.

An official from a nursing home in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, said, “Before last year, more than 100 out of 180 elderly people went out or stayed overnight at the time of the holidays. There were many elderly people, but they are more upset that they can’t see their children this year.”

Video visits on a mobile phone even on holidays

Some nursing homes are planning non-face-to-face meetings between the elderly and their families as the ban on visits continues until New Year this year following Chuseok last year. Video calls using mobile phones and tablet PCs are basic. A nursing home in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, has been supporting the elderly and their families to make video calls since March last year.

Yang Young-ae, 95, who has been living in a nursing home since March of last year, said, “Sometimes video calls are still a pleasure. Standing in front of the window on the second floor, I spoke with my children standing outside (nursing home) on the phone while talking face-to-face,” he said. Yang’s grandmother decided to spend the Lunar New Year this year singing songs with her younger siblings living together in a nursing home.

Video letter to and from family

On the 10th, the Garden Elderly Nursing Home in Paju, Gyeonggi-do held a screening of video letters to celebrate Lunar New Year. It is an event to watch video letters sent by the families of the elderly in nursing homes together. As we could not meet due to Corona 19, our sons and daughters, as well as grandchildren and granddaughters, participated in sending video letters to appease the longing and loneliness of the elderly. On this day, the elderly who saw the video letter on the screen laughed at the joke of their grandchildren or cried “I want to see you. Why are you in it?”

This nursing home decided to shoot a video of the elderly appearing in person and conveying the New Year’s virtues, and then send it to their children. It is said that the most virtues were to be careful that children might get Corona 19. Park Eun-jung, head of the Welfare Team of the Senior Citizens’ Nursing Home, said, “Even if the elderly are aware of the Corona 19 situation, they feel upset.” It seems that the elderly also gradually understand it.”

Sky tea idea also “if it was different for Chuseok”

It is said that Hana Yangwon in Incheon calculated the cost to rent a Sky car. This is to allow the elderly to see the face with the window in between when a guardian rides the sky car to the second floor window. Director Kang Soon-young said, “I tried to make it possible for the elderly and their family to meet at least a little nearby,” he said. “I even gave an estimate, but the guardians expressed concern about safety and could not realize it.” He added, “I hope the elderly will not shed tears for regret next Chuseok.”
