I made my husband break out of a 1.6km tunnel… The two faces of’Drug King Wife’ [영상]

“I am just an ordinary woman. I admired my husband as a human being.”

In 2019, when Joaquin Gusman, 64, the world’s largest drug king, was tried in New York, USA, there was another person who received media attention. It was Emma Coronel Icefuro, 32, a young wife, 32 years younger.

A number of cameras followed him, who put her husband in a calm manner with a conspicuous beauty. At the time, he said he was just a’normal woman’ married without knowing what business he was doing.

However, Coronel is arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport on the 22nd (local time) and comes to the attention again. The charges applied surprised the world. The truth is that he, who pretended to be a’gentle hostess’, was deeply involved in various drug businesses, and he led the planning of his husband’s jailbreak in 2015.

Known by the nickname El Chapo, Gusman is famous for having been in a drama-like chase of three arrests and two jailbreaks in 32 years after being prosecuted by the US prosecution. It is a story that there was a’two-faced’ Coronel in the process.

Coronel, who attended Washington Federal District Court on the 23rd for a burn, was still calm. To the judge’s question, “Can you understand me well?” “I understand everything well. Thank you,” he politely answered. It was exactly what he saw in reporters while attending the court as a witness at the time of Gusman’s trial in 2019.

But on that day, Prosecutor Anthony Nardoch “Corronel was deeply involved in the command and control structure of the cartel,” he said. “It also helped in the process of bringing drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, and methamphetamine into the United States.”Said. The U.S. Department of Justice also applied charges against Coronel for taking the initiative in conspiring when Gusman escaped from Mexican prison in 2015.

US local media said, “If all charges are admitted, we will spend at least 10 years in jail.” The case was “last October Salvador Cienfuegos, former Mexican defense minister, charged with protecting drug cartels. “It is the biggest case in which the US has arrested a Mexican on charges of drugs after being arrested.”

How the hell did Coronel get to the top of the drug lord husband? Before marriage, he was a model from a local beauty pageant in rural Mexico. Then in 2007, when she was 18, she married Gusman, who led the Sinaloa Cartel, and her life changed. It is said that Coronel’s father and uncle were active in the Sinaloa Cartel. That’s why Coronel met Gusman. Gusman, 49 at the time, was married for the third time.

Later, Gusman became the world’s largest drug supplier, succeeding Colombian drug king Pablo Escobar, who died after a firefight with the police. Coronel also gives birth to twin daughters and becomes the hostess of the cartel. Gooseman’s drug business was thriving day by day, so it was once said that 65% of the drugs in the US went through his hands. From 1989 to 2014, Gusman trafficked more than 200 tons of drugs across the United States, and became a’criminal king’ for money laundering, murder teacher, and possession of illegal weapons. At the time, there was also a testimony that three planes were flying in one day to pay for drugs.

But Coronel told the New York Times “(At the time of marriage) I had no idea that my husband was a drug king,” he said. “I loved him as a human being.”Insisted.

“Drama-like tunnel breakout also led”

Coronel used the media well. When Gusman was repatriated back to the United States in 2019, when the trial proceeded, he asked for sympathy, saying, “El Chapo is a compassionate person.” At the time, Gusman was arrested after a fight with the Mexican Navy in a hidden house in January 2016 while promoting the production of a film containing his story six months after his second jailbreak. Later, it was transferred to the United States due to security issues. At the time of trial, Coronel appeared in court every day for interviews. “The media exaggerated him to make him famous,” he said. “In fact, he is a humble person.”Insisted.

The appearance of a wife who visits the courtroom every day to save her husband, a drug king, quickly caught the attention of the media, and in the meantime, even Coronel’s attire became a hot topic. Coronel did not miss this opportunity. That year, it launches a fashion brand named after Gusman’s nickname, El Chapo. She also appears on a reality TV show in the United States and uses her husband’s trial as an opportunity to inform herself.

But in 2019, El Chapo was eventually sentenced to life in prison. The additional collection amount alone exceeded 14 trillion won. He was also imprisoned in the ADX federal prison in Florence, Colorado, which is said to be the most secure in the United States.

Then Coronel’s mask begins to come off as well. It turns out that it was Coronel who led her husband’s second jailbreak in 2015. At the time, Coronel bought the land around the prison and implemented a bold plan to dig a 1.6km long tunnel to the prison shower room. It was so meticulous that I secretly brought a satellite positioning system (GPS) clock into the prison to check my husband’s location.

The US Department of Justice also said, “Corronel believes that El Chapo had a plan to get him out even after he was arrested again in Mexico in January 2016.” The New York Times (NYT) said, “There was evidence that Coronel helped her husband in transporting drugs from 2012 to 2014, including cell phone records and witness testimony.”

Meanwhile, it is said that there is a conflict between the United States and Mexico behind Coronel’s arrest.

In the past, when El Chapo was tried in New York, Coronel appeared in court almost every time, but no US law enforcement attempted to arrest him. Prior to the US’s arrest this time, former Secretary of State Cienfuegos was arrested in the United States on charges of involvement in a drug crime. The conflict between the two countries at the time, when the Mexican side was not notified, eventually led to the arrest of Coronel. Later, the Mexican parliament passed a bill last December restricting the activities of foreign agency agents.

The British Daily Guardian said, “The Mexican parliament’s passing legislation restricting the activities of foreign agents such as the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents in their country, despite the opposition of the US government, would have affected the Coronel arrest. Analyzed.

Coronel is currently detained in Alexandria, Virginia, and has yet to be scheduled for trial. Coronel’s lawyers plan to go ahead with bail applications.
