Amid strong snow news in the central region, delivery application (app) companies temporarily suspended operation.

On the 12th, Coupang Itz posted a notice through its delivery app stating that the delivery service will be stopped due to bad weather. Coupang Itz plans to start service from 8 p.m. depending on weather conditions.

The People of Delivery and Yogiyodo have blocked orders in the metropolitan area of’Baemin Riders’ and’Yogiyo Express’, their own delivery services, and’B Mart’ and’Yomart’, which are immediate delivery services.

In the existing Delivery People and Yogiyo apps, orders are normally processed, but delivery may be delayed.

This is the second time that the delivery app service was stopped due to bad weather this year following a heavy snowfall on the 6th.

Restaurants that have been booming in delivery due to social distancing are crying out from heavy snowfall. Mr. A, who runs a restaurant in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, complained, “When it snows heavily, the delivery app reduces the distance available for riders to deliver, so orders are reduced by more than half.”

A chicken restaurant located in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do recommended a package order in a delivery app notice saying, “Delivery cannot be delivered due to bad weather.

On the other hand, the riders were hit special. Previously, Coupang Itz raised the delivery fee paid to riders on the 6th to the maximum cap of 15,000 won, and paid at least 10,000 won for delivery to the public on foot.

One rider said, “I earned 100,000 won by delivering a total of 7 on foot for 2 hours from 6 to 8 pm today.”

Some people are concerned about rider safety. Earlier, the delivery union, Rider Union, urged its own community to stop operating the delivery app, saying, “Currently, riders are falling or isolated on steep slopes everywhere.”
