“Save our leader, our future, and hope!”

State advisor Aung San Suu Kyi, a symbol of Myanmar’s democratization and the biggest force behind the anti-coup protests, was never seen. The military is raiding the first trial of a shame torture, adding additional charges, and consolidating troops. Citizens confronted the street occupation protests calling for release.

According to foreign media and local residents on the 17th, the first trial of torture Suu Kyi, which was delayed from the 15th to this day, was already secretly conducted by burns without a lawyer present the day before. After the coup on the 1st, there are no civilians who have been interviewed or personally confirmed the figure of a shame torture detained in his home for more than 15 days. The next trial and nine witness interrogations are scheduled on the 1st of next month, but as the military has taken over the judiciary, it is unlikely that the shame torture will be revealed. The military argued that “shame torture is still healthy and is not detained, but protected for safety.”

When the’secret trial’ and the’addition of charges’ became known, the anger among citizens increased on this day. Even on weekdays, thousands of people attended the rally. In particular, it was an atmosphere that could not hide the excitement, such as the first occupation of a major road in Yangon. In a call with the Hankook Ilbo, a Korean resident in Yangon said, “I couldn’t go to work today because the road was blocked due to protests. The voices for the release of shame were very loud, comparable to the weekend when tens of thousands of people gathered.”

The level of response to the military is also rising. The supreme body of the military administration, the National Administrative Council (SAC), ignored the normal legal amendment procedure the day before and revised the criminal law by snatching it. Those who caused dissatisfaction and hatred in the military could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison, heavier than the existing sentence (three years in prison). A new clause was also added to imprisonment for’a person who caused a refusal to work by public officials’. It means that it will eradicate the’Citizen Disobedience Movement (CDM)’ in progress with the anti-coup protests.

The biggest threat is news that large numbers of military troops are gathering in large cities such as Yangon. UN Special Rapporteur Tom Andrews said, “I received a report that Myanmar troops are gathering in Yangon, etc.” In order to prevent soldiers from entering the city center, the vehicles are neglected and used as barricades as if they were broken all over the road.

The protesters made it clear that they would not withdraw. “Let’s march more. Let’s show our strength against the coup government that destroyed the future of Myanmar,” said Chi To, a spokesman for the Democratic Peoples League (NLD) led by Suu Kyi. Mr. A, a local resident in Yangon, said, “From this morning on, social network services (SNS) have been pouring out posters calling for the release of shame advisor and President Yun Min, and’let’s go to the streets’.” “I am determined to have no place.”
