Hyundai Motor Company’s next-generation electric car’Ioniq 5’is finally unveiled. Ioniq 5 is the first model to apply’E-GMP’, a platform exclusively for electric vehicles of Hyundai Motor Group, and is considered Tesla’s powerful’anti-horse’.

According to the industry on the 3rd, Hyundai Motor Company will introduce the world’s first Ioniq 5, the first model of the electric vehicle brand’Ioniq,’ at an online event on the 16th of this month. Initially, the first public event was scheduled to be held on the 2nd of this month, but it is reported that it has been postponed for about two weeks due to local circumstances in Europe.

Hyundai Motor Company plans to launch the Ioniq 5 in the European market next month first. This is because European Union (EU) countries will increase their annual average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by car maker to 95g/km by the end of this year. It has already placed online pre-orders for the’Ioniq First Edition’, which sells only 150 units from December 18th last year to 31st last month. In Korea, a pre-contract will be undertaken from February 22nd, and it will be officially released in April. Sales in the North American market are expected from the second half of this year.

Ioniq 5 is designed with an optimized structure for electric vehicles, unlike existing electric vehicles that utilize the platform of an internal combustion engine vehicle. The space occupied by the engine, transmission, and fuel tank has been greatly reduced, thereby improving the usability of the interior space.

The actual size is 4,640mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,600mm in height, similar to’Tucson’, a semi-medium sports utility vehicle (SUV). On the other hand, the wheelbase (distance between axles) that determines the interior space reaches 3,000mm, which is longer than the large SUV’Palaceseed (2,900mm)’ and the semi-large sedan’Granger (2,885mm)’. By securing a spacious interior space, the first and second row seats can be completely reclined, and storage space can be placed wherever desired. It is known that the trunk capacity reaches 600ℓ, which is the level of a medium SUV.

Ioniq 5 is equipped with two types of batteries, 58kWh and 73kWh. In the case of the 58㎾h model, it is possible to travel up to 450km (WLTP standard) per charge. It is reported that the mileage can be increased to a maximum of 510 km when the’solar roof’, which can be charged with sunlight, is selected as an option. The 73 ㎾h model can run up to 550 km on a single charge. In addition, it is the first mass-produced electric vehicle to be equipped with an 800V charging system, so it can charge 80% within 18 minutes when using a super fast charger, and it can drive about 100km with only 5 minutes charging.

Ioniq 5 is also equipped with many of Hyundai Motor Group’s cutting-edge functions. It is equipped with a’wireless update (OTA)’ function that can update navigation and some functions with software (SW). In addition,’HDA2′, a driving assistance function at the level of semi-autonomous driving on expressways, is also installed. In addition, a 44-inch augmented reality (AR) head-up display and side mirror camera system are also applied.

Experts are also predicting that Hyundai Motor will be in the’Third’ place along with Volkswagen Group in the electric car market led by Tesla in the US depending on the success of Ioniq 5. In addition to the Ioniq 5 this year, Hyundai Motor Group will launch a total of five electric vehicles including Kia’CV (project name)’, Genesis’JW (project name)’, Genesis’eG80′, and Hyundai Motor’s’Mistra EV (for China only)’. . Hyundai Motor Group was fourth in electric car sales after Tesla, Volkswagen Group, and Renault Nissan Alliance last year, but this year it plans to rise to third place due to the effect of new cars.

An official from Hyundai Motor said, “Ionik 5 will be an indicator of success in the future mobility (transportation) market as well as the electric vehicle group of Hyundai Motor Group.” “It has the best performance, efficiency, and safety among electric vehicles in the global automaker industry. I am confident.”
