According to an industry insider on the 27th, a new side mirror system using cameras and display devices will be applied to the first electric car Ioniq 5. As before, you can choose a side view camera as an option along with a basic side mirror that uses a regular mirror. When this option is selected, there is no normal mirror of the side mirror, and the camera and display screen are used. The side and rear screens of the vehicle photographed by the camera are displayed as an indoor display, which is the OLED of Samsung Display. It is expected that the display will be placed at the top of the Ioniq 5 driver and passenger doors.
Samsung Display has been supplying OLED displays to the Audi electric vehicle’e-tron’, which applies the same system under the name’Virtual Side Mirror’, since 2018. OLED can provide an optimal visual solution to drivers due to its low power consumption and thin and light design characteristics. Samsung Display is already taking the lead in the automotive OLED display market, and the industry expects to strengthen the scope of cooperation between Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung starting with this automotive OLED supply contract. This contract is a 10-year contract signed between Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung, and it is evaluated that it is symbolic in that it is equipped with Samsung OLED in Hyundai Motor’s first electric vehicle.
On the other hand, Ioniq 5, a pure electric vehicle to which the electric vehicle platform’E-GMP’ was first applied, will be released sequentially in Korea and the US starting in Europe in March this year. Hyundai Motor’s electric vehicle sales target this year is 160,000 units and is expected to increase by 60% compared to the previous year.
