Expectation of export with excellent transport and speed

Korea’s first power-distributive high-speed train’KTX-Ieum’, manufactured by Hyundai Rotem, started operating on the 5th in the section between Cheongnyangni and Shingyeongju on the Jungang Line.

The power distribution type is a train in which the power source is distributed to each carriage. In the power intensive type, the power car is placed in front of and behind the train.

KTX-Ieum is a power-distributive high-speed train with a maximum speed of 260 km/h, and a total of 5 trains were put into use. KTX-Ieum is a high-speed train that Hyundai Rotem introduced 12 years after mass production of KTX-Sancheon in 2008.’Ieum’ means that it connects regions by railroad tracks.

In the future, Hyundai Rotem plans to sequentially introduce power-distributing high-speed trains at a speed of 320 km/h. Earlier, in 2016, the Korea Railroad Corporation received an order for a total of 21 trains (130 cars) of 260 km/h and 320 km/h for about 430 billion won.

An official from Hyundai Rotem said, “The power-distribution type high-speed train has superior transport capacity and acceleration/deceleration performance compared to the power-oriented type.” .

In the past five years, power-distributive trains account for 75% of the global high-speed train market, and Hyundai Rotem plans to promote the export of high-speed trains with the opening of KTX-Ium.

According to Hyundai Rotem, KTX-Ieum is the first in the world to apply a combination of low- and high-level elevator, so it can be operated on routes with different heights. In addition, passengers in the train can use the Internet and Video on Demand (VOD) by using individual monitors installed on the back of the seats in the special room. A wireless mobile phone charging system was also applied to all rooms.
