“It’s unfamiliar. It’s like a lego piece, an electronic component.

On the 17th at 10 am, Ioniq 5 Square, Wonhyo-ro, Yongsan-gu Hyundai Motor Company (005380)It was my first feeling when I saw the real thing of Ioniq 5, the first dedicated electric vehicle of. The front radiator grille of the familiar internal combustion car has disappeared, and the headlamps are made of LED mattresses made of square dots.

The Ioniq 5 is a name that combines’Ion’ and’Uninque’, and is the first model to be equipped with Hyundai Motor’s exclusive electric vehicle platform E-GMP. According to Hyundai Motor Company, the Ioniq 5 can run up to 430 km on a single charge, and the selling price is set at an early to mid 50 million won. The total length is 4635mm, the width is 1890mm, the height is 1605mm, and the wheelbase (wheelbase) is 3000mm. The body size is similar to that of the semi-mid SUV, Tucson.

The front headlamp is the most essential design element of the Ioniq 5, which is called the’parametric pixel’. Parametric pixels that shape the smallest unit of an image, the pixel, conveys the meaning that IONIQ 5 is a differentiated design element that passes through generations by fusion of analog and digital. This has been applied to all parts of the vehicle, including headlights, taillights, wheels, and electric charging ports.

The thin headlamps located long left and right in the front were also different from the large headlights of ordinary internal combustion engine vehicles. The upper part reflects a clamshell hood that has not been seen in Hyundai until now. The clamshell hood is a hood that reflects the design that can be folded and unfolded like a seashell, and it is composed of a single panel by integrating the hood and fender parts.

Hyundai Motor Company introduced that the exterior design of the Ioniq 5 was inspired by’Pony’. Just as the Pony, which was unveiled in 1974, was an icon that marked the beginning of the Korean automobile industry, the Ioniq 5 was also the first dedicated electric car, and it contained the meaning of leading the new electric car era. In fact, the design emphasizing the straight-line beauty and angled lights on the front and back reminded me of a pony.

The exterior design of the IONIQ 5 was more like an electronic device than a car. Instead of a mirror, a digital side mirror connected to a camera and a monitor reduces blind spots to secure a wider viewing angle, and the auto flush outside handle that automatically comes out and enters when approaching with a smart key gave the impression of high-tech equipment. The engine compartment in the front of the internal combustion vehicle disappears, and the front trunk comes out when the bonnet is opened.

The body size felt “smaller than I thought,” but the interior space was different. Equipped with Hyundai Motor’s exclusive electric vehicle platform E-GMP on the floor, Ioniq 5 reflects the theme of a comfortable living space with an optimized interior design. The floor was flat with a platform for electric vehicles, and the distance between the axes was 3000 mm, giving a spacious sense of space.

Both the first and second rows of seats can be moved back and forth via electronic buttons. The seat back and cushion angles can also be folded and unfolded freely. When the second row of seats is fully flipped forward, it connects with the space behind the seats.

The V2L function, which can supply general power (220V) to the outside of the vehicle, is also expected to be highly utilized outdoors. The V2L function provides 3.6kW of power consumption, which is higher than that used in ordinary homes, allowing you to use home appliances and electronic devices without restrictions in various external environments such as outdoor activities or camping places. Open the charging port, plug in the 220V converter, and plug in the electronic device you want, and it works immediately without any other manipulation.

The seating feeling was also excellent. Introduced as a’weightless seat’, the inner seat of the IONIQ 5 creates a comfortable posture by adjusting the angle of the backrest and cushion. It can be folded and unfolded freely while moving as a whole as well as the angle of the seat back. In addition, the first row seat includes a leg support (leg support) such as a recliner.

The center console’Universal Island’, which Hyundai Motors considered as the highlight of the interior space of the Ioniq 5, did not meet expectations. In the teaser video, Universal Island, which moved freely back and forth in the space between rows 1 and 2, requires manual force to move. It is possible to move backwards up to 140mm, so that a 15W smartphone wireless charging system or upper and lower trays can be used not only in the first row but also for passengers in the second row.

IONIQ 5, which entered into advance reservations from the 25th of last month, recorded 23,760 contracts on the first day, and recorded the highest number of pre-contracts across all domestic auto and electric vehicle models. It also surpassed the number of pre-contracted vehicles for internal combustion engines for the first time.
