Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun visited POSCO Cheongsong University in Pohang on the 16th and decided to promote cooperation in hydrogen related projects with POSCO.

On this day, Hyundai Motor Group and POSCO Group participated in the participation of officials from both companies, including Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-seon Eui-sun, Hyundai Motor Strategy Planning Manager Gong Young-woon, Hyundai Steel Vice President Park Jong-sung, Hyundai Steel Vice President Choi Jeong-woo, POSCO Group Chairman Hak-dong Kim, POSCO Steel Division Head, and Yoo Byung-ok, POSCO Industrial Gas Hydrogen Business Division Head. A business agreement on cooperation in hydrogen business has been signed.

Hyundai Motor Group and POSCO Group agreed that it is necessary to achieve carbon neutrality through the establishment of a hydrogen ecosystem in order to create a sustainable world, and signed an agreement on this day after actively exploring areas for cooperation where synergy between the two companies can be exerted. .

In the future, 1,500 vehicles, including trucks operated by POSCO Pohang and Gwangyang Works, will be gradually converted into hydrogen electric vehicles. In addition, the construction of hydrogen charging stations for commercial vehicles in the steel mill is also underway.

In addition, POSCO Group decided to jointly promote the fuel cell power generation business in the form of supplying hydrogen and Hyundai Motor Group supplying hydrogen fuel cells.

In addition, the two companies will jointly research and develop to expand the use of hydrogen energy, such as ▲development of technologies related to production and use of green hydrogen ▲development of next-generation materials applicable to hydrogen electric vehicles.

Along with this, we will actively seek hydrogen-related business opportunities overseas, such as participating in technology development projects for green hydrogen production projects in overseas regions. Hyundai Motor Company is also pursuing the discovery of demand for hydrogen electric vehicles in the country and nearby regions.

The Hyundai Motor Group and POSCO Group have continued cooperation by applying the non-coated metal separator material developed by POSCO Group to the hydrogen electric vehicle Nexo.

The Hyundai Motor Group has successfully launched the hydrogen electric vehicle Nexo, the hydrogen truck Exient, and the hydrogen bus Electic, and announced its goal to produce 500,000 hydrogen electric vehicles and 700,000 hydrogen fuel cell systems by 2030. Hyundai Steel also devoted itself to spreading the hydrogen economy through hydrogen production and supply.

In December of last year, POSCO Group also announced that it will lead the era of decarbonization by establishing a system of 5 million tons of hydrogen production and 30 trillion won in sales in the hydrogen business by 2050 under the vision of being a’leading green hydrogen company leading the hydrogen economy’. .
