Hyundai Motor Group and SK Group will promote multilateral cooperation in hydrogen-related business fields such as ▲ supplying 1,500 hydrogen electric vehicles ▲ building hydrogen and high-speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure ▲ promoting the establishment of the Korean version of the K-Hydrogen Council.
Hyundai Motor Group and SK Group held a meeting at SK Incheon Petrochemical (located in Seo-gu, Incheon) on the 2nd (Tue) to discuss plans to expand the hydrogen ecosystem before attending the 3rd Hydrogen Economy Committee, presided over by Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun. Both groups are seeking out various business models to expand the supply of hydrogen electric vehicles. First of all, the company plans to gradually convert 1,500 vehicles operating at SK Group’s business sites into hydrogen electric vehicles produced by Hyundai Motor Company, and the Hyundai Motor Group will introduce hydrogen commercial vehicles such as hydrogen cargo trucks (planned in ’22) and hydrogen tractors (planned in ’24). And discussed plans to be used by SK Group.
Both groups will also join forces to build hydrogen and ultra-fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure. By the end of ’21, one hydrogen charging station for commercial vehicles will be installed at SK Nae Truck House, a logistics service base in Incheon/Ulsan, and concrete cooperation plans to install hydrogen charging stations at SK gas stations nationwide will continue to be discussed. .
In addition, we will continue cooperation to expand eco-friendly vehicle charging infrastructure by discussing plans to install electric vehicle rapid chargers (200kW class) at SK gas stations.
Together with the POSCO Group, the two groups will promote the establishment of the’Korean version of the K-Hydrogen Council’ in the first half of the year, a CEO consultation for hydrogen business cooperation between domestic companies. The Korean version of the Hydrogen Committee is expected to play various roles to lead the realization of a true hydrogen society by strengthening the hydrogen business capabilities of domestic companies and expanding their business areas.
The Hyundai Motor Group has been in close cooperation with SK Group in the eco-friendly car sector, including selecting SK Innovation as the primary battery supplier for Hyundai Motor Company and Kia’s electric vehicle platform’E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform)’. The goal is to further strengthen business capabilities in the eco-friendly field through cooperation and open an era of decarbonization.
Hyundai Motor Group is leading the global market as the first mover in the hydrogen field, starting with mass production of the world’s first hydrogen electric vehicle in 2013, and has announced its goal to produce 500,000 hydrogen electric vehicles and 700,000 hydrogen fuel cell systems annually by 2030. .
In December of last year, SK Group also launched the’Hydrogen Business Promotion Team’ under the policy of intensively fostering hydrogen business with next-generation energy, and announced its goal to build a hydrogen ecosystem by promoting domestic hydrogen business and entering the global market.
