[컨슈머뉴스=정진영 기자] For the first time, Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled some of the external appearance of the’Ioniq 5′, the first electric car produced on a new platform this year.

On the 13th, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the external teaser image of Ioniq 5, which first applied the electric vehicle platform’E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform)’.

E-GMP is a production structure optimized only for electric vehicles, creating an electric vehicle capable of driving up to 500km or more through a single charge. In particular, unlike other electric vehicles that can only charge for 400V voltage, it has a multi-fast charging system that can charge 800V, so it takes only 18 minutes, which is 30 minutes shorter than before, to fully charge 80%.

On this day, Hyundai Motor Company released some photos of the front and side of the Ioniq 5 vehicle. The most eye-catching design is that the hood and fenders (both left and right sides of the front of the vehicle) are integrated into one. The so-called’clamshell’ hood was applied for the first time by Hyundai.

Both Ionic 5 and Model Y can drive 500km or more after fully charged. Since it was before the official release, neither the selling price nor the detailed grade (trim) has been disclosed yet. After all, the key is how each price will be set. As the government’s EV subsidy policy has changed from this year, consumers are expected to be the most sensitive to selling prices.

Hyundai Motor Company decided to open a part of the external image of the Ioniq 5, and from this day onwards, expand the operation of’On-the-Go Charging Service’ for electric car customers.

On the other hand, unfortunately, on the same day, Tesla Korea unveiled a new electric sports utility vehicle (SUV)’Model Y’. The two products are similar in car class and are expected to be released in the first half of this year, so they are expected to engage in fierce consumer battles in the future.

On this day, Tesla, the world leader in the electric vehicle market, showed its first appearance to consumers by exhibiting its second SUV, Model Y, at a pop-up store in Lotte Department Store Yeongdeungpo in Seoul and Lotte World Mall in Jamsil. When this vehicle is released in the first quarter or the first half of this year, it will become the fourth Tesla vehicle in Korea after the entry-level sedan’Model 3’and premium sedan’Model S’and the first SUV’Model X’. Unlike the existing Model X, the Model Y, which is scheduled to be released as a low-end model, is a semi-mid-sized SUV, but it is close to a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) like the Ioniq 5. CUV is a vehicle that is smaller in size than an SUV and has a higher fuel economy.

Considering that the domestic sales price of the low-end sedan Model 3 ranges from the late 50 million won range to the mid-70 million won range, the model Y, a semi-mid-sized SUV, is expected to be more expensive. Therefore, it is difficult to receive the full subsidy when purchasing Model Y. On the other hand, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 is likely to be released at a price lower than the standard (60 million won) for all subsidies. In the industry, it is observed that it will be released at an early-mid price of 50 million won. In this case, a subsidy of 11 million won can be provided, so the actual purchase price drops to 40 million won.
