Hyundai Motor Company (005380)On the 23rd, IONIQ 5, the first model of the exclusive electric vehicle brand Ioniq, was unveiled. Hyundai Motor Company will begin pre-contracting with Ionic 5 in Korea on the 25th. The Ionic 5 can run up to 430 km on a single charge, and the selling price is set from the early to mid 50 million won depending on the long-distance model and trim.
At the event, Hyundai Motor executives, including Hyundai Motor President Jae-hoon Jang and Lee Sang-yeop, executive director in charge of Hyundai Design, introduced the design and possibilities by getting inside the vehicle. Managing Director Lee said, “We tried to reflect the electric concept car ’45’, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show two years ago, to the mass-produced car as much as possible.” “The Ionik 5 may look small, but it is not a small car,” he said. “The wheelbase of the Ionik 5 is 3000mm, which is 100mm longer than Hyundai’s largest SUV Palisade.”
President Jang sat down in the passenger seat and introduced the IONIC 5’s’zero gravity sheet’. By adjusting the angle of the seat back and cushion, it creates a zero gravity posture. It is characterized by not only adjusting the angle of the seat back but also extending it while moving as a whole.
In particular, Ioniq can make the floor flat by applying a platform for electric vehicles, and accordingly, it can move 140mm back and forth, the’Universal Island’, a center console between the driver’s seat and the passenger’s seat. Universal Island has a high-speed smartphone wireless charging system and has a tray structure that is divided up and down, and the lower tray can store luggage such as laptops and handbags.
In addition, it has a practical loading space through the front trunk provided in the engine room seat of the internal combustion locomotive and the trunk that can maximize space by moving the two-row electric seats. The trunk has a basic load capacity of 531 liters, and when the second row seats are folded, it increases to 1600 liters.
The exterior was inspired by’Pony’. Just as the Pony, which was first unveiled in 1974, was an icon that marked the beginning of the Korean automobile industry, the Ioniq 5 is also the first dedicated electric car, and it has the meaning of leading the new electric car era.
In addition, the’Digital Side Mirror’ where the camera and monitor system are connected, and the’Auto-Flush Outside Handle’ that automatically comes out and enters the door handle when approaching with a smart key were applied. The digital side mirror is a specification applied for the first time by Hyundai Motors. By replacing the general mirror with a camera and monitor, blind spots can be greatly reduced, improving safety.
In addition, the entire roof was applied with fixed glass and a vision roof (optional) with an electric roll blind function was installed to improve the sense of openness. It emphasized the eco-friendly image with a solar roof (optional) that increases the driving distance of up to 1500 km per year (based on Korean average solar radiation, 19-inch tires driven by rear wheels) by solar charging.
Hyundai Motor Company operates the Ioniq 5 in two models: a long range (sealing model) with a 72.6kWh battery and a standard model with a 58.0kWh battery.
The maximum driving distance for a single charge is 410~430km based on the long-range rear-wheel drive model (according to our laboratory, measured by a domestic certification method), and for 350kW super-fast charging, 80% of the battery capacity and 5 minutes are charged within 18 minutes. Up to 100㎞ Driving is possible. (Based on European certification WLTP)
The motor installed on the rear wheel has a maximum output of 160 kW and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, and a four-wheel drive method can be selected by adding a front wheel motor depending on the trim. (The sum of all four wheels is the maximum output of 225kW, the maximum torque of 605Nm)
In addition, specifications for efficient electric vehicle driving were installed in Ioniq 5. Equipped with a heat pump system, waste heat generated from electrical components such as drive motors is utilized for indoor heating to reduce battery power consumption as much as possible.
The Smart Regenerative System 2.0 automatically adjusts the regenerative braking amount by using the traffic flow ahead and navigation map information. Regenerative braking is a technology that converts kinetic energy generated when a car slows down into electric energy and stores it in a battery. It can be used using a paddle shift on the steering wheel. When traffic congestion is expected or the vehicle in front is close, the amount of regenerative braking is automatically increased, and when traffic is smooth, the amount of regenerative braking is lowered to enable efficient driving.
In addition, Hyundai Motor Company minimized deformation of the passenger compartment by applying a collision load distribution structure to the front of the vehicle. For battery safety, aluminum reinforcement is applied to the battery protection section at the bottom of the vehicle, and hot stamping members are reinforced at the front and periphery of the battery to enhance collision safety. In addition, the cooling block separation structure was applied to prevent coolant from flowing into the battery, ensuring safety even in the event of coolant leakage due to collisions.
The world’s first 400V/800V multi-fast charging system, which can use various charging infrastructures, is applied to IONIQ 5. This multi-quick charging system uses the vehicle’s driving motor and inverter to boost the 400V voltage supplied from the charger to 800V optimized for the vehicle system, enabling stable charging.
It also has a V2L function that can supply general power (220V) to the outside of the vehicle. The V2L function provides 3.6kW of power consumption, which is higher than that used in ordinary homes, allowing you to use home appliances and electronic devices without restrictions in various external environments such as outdoor activities or camping places.
In addition, the charging convenience is enhanced by applying the PnC (Plug and Charge) function, which allows you to automatically start charging by automatically performing authentication and payment immediately after connecting the electric vehicle charging cable. The PnC function can be used after pre-authentication and card registration through a separate application.
By reflecting the individual consumption tax benefits (up to 3 million won) and purchase subsidy (12 million won based on Seoul city) applied to electric vehicles, the Long Range Exclusive Trim can be purchased for an amount in the upper 30 million won range.
