Hyundai Motor Company President “Apologizes for the Kona EV fire… Fundamental resolution efforts”
[아시아경제 이창환 기자] Hyundai Motor Company recently apologized for the subsequent fire of Kona Electric (EV).
Jang Jae-hoon, president of Hyundai Motor Company, said at a media conference held on the 23rd prior to the online release of Ioniq 5, “I sincerely apologize again for causing inconvenience and concern to customers due to the recent Kona EV fire issue.”
President Jang said, “We have been actively conducting a cause investigation with a partner company, a battery manufacturer, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and we will report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and carry out a series of procedures through consultation.” We are working hard to come up with fundamental solutions for safety.”
He said, “I think (fire causes and solutions, etc.) will be announced sooner or later,” he said. “I will talk about this through an official channel.”
Hyundai Motor Company plans to take the lead by replacing the entire battery of the Kona EV, which has become a problem, and submit a plan with this content to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport soon.
However, it is said that disagreements with LG Energy Solutions (formerly LG Chem’s battery business division), which are battery manufacturers, are not easily narrowed over the issue of battery replacement scale and cost sharing.
