The two companies held a meeting at SK Incheon Petrochemical to meet with key executives from both groups and discuss ways to expand the hydrogen ecosystem prior to attending the 3rd Hydrogen Economy Committee presided over by Prime Minister Chung Sye-gyun.

The meeting was attended by Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-sun Eui-seon, Hyundai Motor Company President Gong Young-woon, Hyundai Motor Company President Jae-hoon Jang, Hyundai Mobis President Sung-Hwan Cho, and Hyundai Motor Vice President Se-Hoon Kim, SK Group Chairman Tae-Won Choi, SK Group Chairman Dong-Hyun Jang, SK E&S President Choo Hyung-wook, and Yoon Seok Choi. Hyundai Motor Group and SK Group agreed that hydrogen, which is a clean energy, is an essential factor in achieving carbon neutrality for realizing a sustainable society, and conducted discussions in order to actively seek areas for cooperation that can create business synergy between the two groups. . In addition, in order to expand the supply of hydrogen electric vehicles, it is developing various business models.

First, the company plans to gradually convert 1,500 vehicles operating at SK Group’s business sites into hydrogen electric vehicles produced by Hyundai Motor Company.Hyundai Motor Group will provide hydrogen commercial vehicles such as hydrogen cargo trucks (planned in 2022) and hydrogen tractors (planned in 2024). SK Group discussed ways to use it.

In addition, it is also concentrating on building hydrogen and high-speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure. By the end of 2021, one hydrogen charging station for commercial vehicles will be installed at SK Nae Truck House, a logistics service base in Incheon and Ulsan. It is also planning to continue to discuss concrete cooperation plans to install hydrogen refueling stations at SK gas stations nationwide.

In addition, we will continue cooperation to expand eco-friendly vehicle charging infrastructure by discussing plans to install electric vehicle rapid chargers (200kW class) at SK gas stations.

Together with the POSCO Group, the two groups will promote the establishment of the’K-Hydrogen Council’, a CEO consultation for hydrogen business cooperation between domestic companies, in the first half of the year.

The Korean version of the Hydrogen Committee is expected to play various roles to lead the realization of a true hydrogen society by strengthening the hydrogen business capabilities of domestic companies and expanding their business areas.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group plans to continue to seek close cooperation with partners in various fields in order to realize a hydrogen society early through the diffusion of the hydrogen ecosystem.
