Hyundai Mobis builds a new hydrogen fuel cell plant.

Cheongna International City, Incheon, is being considered as the area where the new factory will be built.

An official of the Hyundai Motor Group said, “We have coordinated this proposal with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the group-level review has also been completed.”

Hyundai Motor Group is focusing on globalization of the fuel cell business with the goal of selling 700,000 hydrogen fuel cell systems by 2030.

This month, construction of the first overseas hydrogen fuel cell system plant in Guangzhou, China, has begun, and construction of overseas production lines is also in a hurry.

However, since fuel cell technology is classified as a state secret, core processes must be carried out in Korea.

This is the reason why Hyundai Motor Group chose Incheon Cheongna as a new hydrogen fuel cell production base.

An official of the Hyundai Motor Group said, “The reason that Cheongna International City is a port city on the west coast that is easy to export has received higher scores than other candidates.”

When the Cheongna plant in Incheon is completed, the number of hydrogen fuel cells, which was currently produced at the Chungju plant at about 40,000 units per year, is expected to increase dramatically.

The major production products at the Cheongna plant are expected to be parts or finished products of the hydrogen fuel cell system brand’HTWO’ launched by Hyundai Motor Group at the end of last year.

The Hyundai Motor Group plans to grow the hydrogen fuel cell business as a core business of the group with this new plant construction as an opportunity.
