On the 15th, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the interior specifications of the ambitious’Ionic 5′, which first applied the electric vehicle platform’E-GMP’. On the 23rd, Ioniq 5 will be officially released through the World Premiere (world’s first) online event. There is an evaluation that the curtain of’Electric Vehicle War’ has risen.

○’Space utilization’ by eliminating engine and transmission ↑

Hyundai Motor Company Ioniq 5 sortie... Tesla solo ends

The strength of IONIQ 5 is’high indoor space utilization’. This is because a wider space can be secured instead of removing parts that go into the internal combustion engine vehicle such as the engine and transmission. The interior tunnel part (a convex part in the middle of the room), which was pointed out as a structural limitation of the internal combustion locomotive, was eliminated and the floor was designed to be flat. In that seat, a relaxation comfort seat was applied to reduce the passenger’s fatigue. Leg supports (leg supports) were placed under the seats, like the first class of an airplane. It is explained that the angle of the backrest and cushion can also be adjusted, allowing a comfortable rest when parked or stopped.

The central console’Universal Island’ is designed to move back and forth so that passengers can freely use the space. If you need more space in the front seats, you can get more space by sliding the console back. The cockpit from the driver’s dashboard to the passenger seat is also designed to be slim by reducing the volume of the air conditioning system. The electronic shifting lever (SBW) is placed around the steering wheel to enhance the driver’s convenience.

The interior interior is made of eco-friendly materials. Some of the leather seats and door armrests (armrests) were made from recycled transparent plastic bottles. Bio-materials extracted from sugar cane were used for the doors, cockpits, ceilings and floors. Hyundai Motor Company is planning to build an eco-friendly brand image by expanding the application of eco-friendly materials to the upcoming Ionic lineup.

○ Domestic market that has become a’electric vehicle battlefield’

Hyundai Motor Company plans to unveil the world’s first Ioniq 5 on the 23rd. It is expected to launch in Europe next month and then start domestic sales in April. The Ioniq 5 can run up to 500 km or more on a single charge. It can be charged up to 80% in 18 minutes using the super fast charger. A representative of Hyundai Motor Company said, “We will provide customers with a new experience of electrification through Ionic 5,” and “We will open a new era of electric vehicles.”

Competition in the electric vehicle market is expected to intensify this year as Hyundai Motor’s first dedicated electric vehicle is revealed. Thanks to the model 3 craze last year, Tesla, which achieved the first ‘10,000 club’ in Korea, recently launched the mid-size electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) Model Y. The basic trim (detailed model) is priced at 59.99 million won, allowing 100% of the government subsidy. In the market, attention is focused on whether Hyundai will be able to stop Tesla’s solo run with the Ioniq 5.

Global automakers are also releasing a large number of vehicles with a platform exclusively for electric vehicles. At the beginning of this year, General Motors (GM) of the United States unveiled four electric vehicles manufactured based on the’Ultium platform’ exclusively for electric vehicles at’CES 2021′, the world’s largest IT and home appliance exhibition. Among them, the Volt EUV will be released in Korea in the second half of this year. Volkswagen is also planning to introduce an electric SUV ID.4 applied with the’MEB platform’ in Korea by next year. Hyundai Motor Company’s luxury car brands Genesis and Kia are also planning to release’JW’ and’CV’ each year applying E-GMP.
