Hyundai hydrogen electric vehicle travels to the POSCO steel mill

On the 16th, Hyundai Motor Group and POSCO Group signed a’business agreement on hydrogen business cooperation’ at POSCO Cheongsong University in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. Hyundai Motor Group and POSCO Group have decided to cooperate from various angles in the hydrogen business field. In the future, about 1,500 FCEVs of Hyundai Motor Company will be operated in stages at POSCO Pohang and Gwangyang Works.

On the 16th, management of Hyundai Motor Group, including Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun (51), visited POSCO Cheongsong University in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and signed a’MOU on Hydrogen Business Cooperation (MOU)’ with POSCO. At POSCO, major executives including Chairman Jeong-woo Choi (64) attended.

The two companies agreed on ▶Development of hydrogen energy utilization technology ▶Conversion of vehicles operated by POSCO Steelworks to hydrogen electric vehicles ▶Joint cooperation in hydrogen business, etc. According to the agreement on the day, 1,500 vehicles operated by POSCO Steelworks will be converted to Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen electric vehicles in stages. Transport trucks in Pohang and Gwangyang steelworks are subject to conversion. It has also decided to jointly conduct a project to build a charging station for hydrogen trucks in the steel mill. Regarding the development of hydrogen energy utilization technology, POSCO will develop hydrogen manufacturing technology using ammonia, and Hyundai Motor Group plans to jointly promote POSCO’s fuel cell business using hydrogen. Overseas, they seek ways to participate in the’Green Hydrogen Production Project’ together.

Hyundai Motor Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun said, “The paradigm shift to the hydrogen economy to achieve carbon neutrality is a challenge facing all industries and all companies, and is an essential element for realizing a sustainable future.” I will contribute to the creation of the ecosystem.” POSCO Chairman Jeong-woo Choi said, “From the perspective of POSCO producing and supplying hydrogen and using it by Hyundai Motor Company, we will find various opportunities for cooperation and secure hydrogen economy initiatives.”
