“I will make it clear here. A number of domestic companies have declared that they will enter the urban aviation mobility (UAM) market, but Korea Aerospace (047810)Industry (KAI), we are the only one.”

At a press conference held on the subject of’Aerospace Industry Development Direction and Vision’ at COEX, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 2nd, KAI CEO Ahn Hyun-ho said, “The core of UAM is flight and many of the underlying technologies for this are already secured by our own capabilities. He announced that it will develop UAM aircraft by 2029 and enter satellite information service by 2023.

This is the first time that President Ahn has had a press conference since taking office in September 2019. He also expressed his ambition that “10 years later, KAI will be reborn as the first aerospace company leading the Asian market and grow into the world’s top 20 company with 10 trillion won in sales.” KAI has been generating’box sales’ of 3 trillion won per year in recent years. Away from this, it has set an intermediate goal to leap to a 5 trillion won company in sales by 2025. In addition, it plans to raise the order balance, which is currently worth 18 trillion won, to 25 trillion won by 2025. Regarding the future business, KAI presented a blueprint to promote △ future air mobility △ satellite and space launch vehicles △ aviation defense electronics △ manned and unmanned complex system △ simulation.

On that day, President Ahn emphasized that KAI is the strongest in the domestic aerospace industry and that he is focusing on seeking partners. Korea’s leading companies are releasing UAM-related blueprints, but they reaffirmed that KAI is the best in terms of possessing core competencies to create aircraft. However, we are still contemplating who we will join hands with and lead the UAM market in the future. President Ahn said, “There will be various types of UAM in the future, but the current concern is who can present the standard by making it the cheapest and with good quality. “He said. He added, “We are at the stage of seeking cooperation with leading companies in Korea, and I think that the announcement will be made at a certain point in time.” KAI plans to acquire additional core technologies related to UAM technology by 2025 and develop its own demonstration machine by 2029.

KAI’s blueprints related to’New Space’ (private-led satellite business) led by US big tech companies such as Space X and Blue Origin were also introduced. President Ahn said that he would respond to the demands of Southeast Asian countries, saying, “We will turn medium and large satellites into export industries.” According to him, KAI is trying to nurture it as an export business for the private sector by transferring the medium and large-sized satellite technology that was being conducted by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. It is said that medium and large satellites are more profitable than small and micro satellite businesses. KAI plans to focus on information services such as weather related to the micro-satellite business. President Ahn said, “We will focus on high-value-added service business rather than micro-satellite manufacturing, which is less profitable,” and said, “We are negotiating mergers and acquisitions or strategic alliances in order to advance into a service that provides satellite image decoding services with base stations.” . KAI plans to complete the related work between May and July and release the results.

KAI plans to continue stable growth by enhancing competitiveness in its existing main business, military and civilian projects. To this end, the’Korean Fighter Aircraft (KF-X)’ project, which is scheduled to ship prototypes in April, is proceeding without a hitch and is concentrating company-wide capabilities for the export of light attack aircraft (FA-50).
