Not guilty of appeal, but the Supreme Court judgment remains
[더팩트ㅣ송주원 기자] Short track player Lim Hyo-jun recently chose to naturalize in China. He is planning to continue his career by joining the Chinese short track national team.
Lim’s agency released a press release the day before (6th) and said, “Im Hyo-jun decided to naturalize in China.”
After receiving a proposal from the China Ice Skating Federation, Lim is undergoing special naturalization procedures in China, and is expected to play as the Chinese short track team at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
The agency said, “With the prolonged trial and disciplinary period of the Federation, it became difficult to continue with the dream of wanting to wear the Taegeuk mark and go to the Olympics once again.” It is largely due to the regret and regret.”
Lim played an active part as an ace by winning the men’s 1500m gold medal and men’s 500m bronze medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Then, in June 2019, he was handed over to trial on charges of pulling the pants of a junior of the national team to reveal body parts during physical training at the national athlete’s village (forced molestation).
In August 2019, the Ice Skating Federation imposed a one-year disciplinary action on Lim for suspension. Lim requested a reconsideration with the Sports Fair Committee of the Korean Sports Association, but it was not accepted. In response, Lim filed a lawsuit against the Korean Ice Skating Federation in March last year to confirm the invalidity of disciplinary action.
Lim was acquitted in an appeals court in November last year related to the alleged harassment. This is why it is difficult to see it as an action that will cause sexual shame or disgust when looking at the act of pulling the pants alone.
It is known that Lim chose to go to China with in mind the possibility that it would be difficult to compete in the Olympics two years later if his innocence was overturned by the Supreme Court.
The Chinese short track national team is led by Kim Sun-tae, who was the Korean national team manager at the PyeongChang Olympics. Recently, Viktor An (Korean name Ahn Hyun-soo, Russia) has also joined as a coach.
